…and not because everyone thought it was shite?! Dude, you gotta stop listening to these guys!
Personally i just think that If they can’t come up with the goods then they shouldn’t bother. They’ve got enough material, they should just fucking tour that. And not these 2-3 hour sets, 90 minutes of their best in smaller venues.

Agreed.
Some Kind of Monster showed them desperately scrabbling round for ideas. Er, hello! If you haven’t got any ideas…WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU MAKING AN ALBUM?! Just for the SAKE of it…?!

“It’s their job”???
seriously??
I don’t think they need to release another album just to pay for their kids college or something (or Lars’ art collection, urgh)
I’m seeing the next album as some kind of “last chance” moment… they KNOW that everything since Load (or the Black Album, actually) is considered crap when compared to old metallica, and it is pretty clear in my mind that they WANT to release something that is closer to Master or And Justice…
and if it’s another half-assed album like St. Anger (which has some pretty good moments, but seriously…), maybe it’s time to everyone go home, enjoy their families and realize that Metallica died in bus accident in Sweden several years ago…
(by the way, I’m pretty drunk right now and I’m hoping my sentences make any sense at all)

LOL Can you imagine going in to work on a Monday morning at the Metallica offices if you’d been going round all weekend saying “Hmm, well I HAVE heard the new songs, but they’re a bit gash, really…Still, hey ho, there’s always next time eh?”
How many bands have gone on about how the new album’s the best thing they’ve ever done and so on and so forth and then come the time of the promotion for the NEXT album they’re telling everyone how they learned from the mistakes they made last time. Erm, hang on, you said the last album was fucking GREAT before I bought it…now you ADMIT it was racked off?! Oh gee, thanks!

St. Anger
I will be downloading this one before I buy that’s for sure.

On the plus side, I hope they do a similar thing to last time - with the DVD of the whole album being played live in the studio. Whatever I think of the album itself, the idea of a whole live performance of an album being included as part of the original album package is pretty cool.

But yeah I get the point that an album doesn’t have to be 79mins59 seconds to make it worth having.
I think 10 songs is a good cut off point.

Under contract?? yeah, cos they’ll get dropped if they don’t deliver the goods, and no-ones going to want to sign metallica are they?!
(Thats sarcasm by the way dude. Apparently the word from the metallia camp is that they like it.)

They licence there music to their record company and own their own copyright so they ain;t got to do diddle shit.. they are pretty much free to release this album with anyone but are happy with universal so stick with them. I would say the managers are more behind getting them to record.

I think Rob Trujello may help them out in the backing vocal department.
