National Service… would you?

#

Started by Born-in-a-crash

I was having this conversation about if national service was introduced for the war on Iraq with my band mates. I told my mates that I would rather go to a military prison than fight a war against my own will. My mates though said that they would go to war out of respect to their mates and to help protect them as it is a matey thing to do. I said that if your mates had any respect for you, they would contemplate going to prison. What does everyone else think on this particularly pointless conversation?!
(please note: National service can not be introduced under the European human right act- so this is a complete fantasy issue!)

But under my personal circumstances and with my personal knowledge, I also wouldn´t go to war. Especially I don´t wat to support this stupid war agains Iraq, which is quite senseless.

I won’t wear a uniform on principle, the principle that someone might shoot me in it. But seriously I wouldn’t because I don’t want to join the armed forces as during a war there’s a serious risk of me being killed and I’d rather live as long as possible

as i said in another thread, i’m going to do it in 2 months.
and i hope next year to go to kosovo, where there are sone italian forces there.
but, back to your question.
even if you’re under your sevice, you can refuse to go to fight, without going in prison! that happened fifty years ago, but now it’s only volunteers that go to “war”..
there are also italian forces in afghanistan, but they sent there only officials (‘cause it’s WAR) that agreed to go there.. if i were an official, i would have done all i could for going there. they earn about 11000 E in a month..
in kosovo italians military (it’s a peace mission, so it’s not WAR) earn about 3500 E. in a month (the mission lasts from 3 to 6 months) and next year if they ansk me to go, i’ll answer YES. and not just for the money.
