I still haven’t seen it yet. I did read an interesting review a while back from someone who was passionate about Joy Division at the time and lived in Manchester, and he said that although it was a great film it did gloss over some of the things that made Ian Curtis unique. He said that he felt that they had sort of ‘added him to the list’ of tortured souls by using a rather cliched “fame fortune breakdown” formula that applies to countless acts, rather than separating him out and focusing on the specific individual problems and characteristics that made him who he was. I don’t know whether there’s any truth in that though - as I say, i haven’t seen it yet.

Isn’t there already a control thread?

I just read that back and it didn’t sound right. The guy was saying that IC was his hero and he didn’t want to see his life made comparable in any way to that of other tortured souls. He wasn’t knocking the film.

I can agree with you a bit, my first impression was that it was a bit short.
It left me with the feeling that there was soo much more to be told that was really significant to his live.\
Maybe the budget was a bit too low. and he had to cut it short.

I enjoyed the film, and since I had read Touching From A Distance, I knew what to expect from the film. This was Anton’s first film, and its a classic.

I liked the black and white setup. gives it a grim setting. and makes it look much like a movie that could have been made in that time.
Korbijn is a genius. But again the movie seems short , like a part is missing.

By the way, did you notice that Anton Corbijn (with a letter C instead of a K if we talk about the same one) took infernal love jacket pictures ?

the one thing that put ME off the film is that ian curtis was a completely overrated godawful useless cunt. Sorry, i’ve tried many a time over the years to find something in the music of joy division and the lyrics of Cuntis but to no avail. Soz, like.

*shakes head in disbelief*..Mate, I agree with you about Joy Division (one of the most name-dropped bands in terms of “influences” yet I have never heard a single band that sounds like them. Fortunately.) but…You’re missing out if you haven’t succombed to the joys of “Technique”

Yes but Therapy? sound nothing like Joy Division. I have heard plenty of covers of their songs but that’s not the same thing.

Andy’s vocals actually remind me of Ian Curtis at certain points during Isolation…

I’m not going to get involved except to say that when it comes to a choice between Joy Division and Therapy? … Well suffice it to say that I think T? covering Isolation was brave but daft. It doesn’t begin to compare with the original, not least because there’s no real passion in it. That’s not a criticism of T? - I don’t think anyone could do that song justice. Say what you like about Ian Curtis he really felt every word he ever sang. And so did I :(

Ian wrote the lyrics to Isolation as a personal matter, as was most of Closer.

Hand on heart, prefer T?’s version, as there better tracks on Closer that.

Hi Fatboy , have you ever watched this isolation cover http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=Ww_FGETwjIM . I personnally like it . I always thought it’s well-maked since I heard it for the first time, or else both version you talk about are played with different way . As T?’s one is closer to punk-metal as Joy Division ‘s one is rather their own style, I grew up with that anyway. Maybe during Troublegum process, original Isolation lyrics met some of Andy’s particular state of mind, then T? ‘s played it as wo all know.
