So is “Clowns Galore” the name of that song? Strange… that was the name of a song recorded for the OCFA sessions which was apparently a completed tune, apart from the vocals. The song in the video only seems to be an early idea.
“Well spotted! It’s obviously the same song-title but we’re re-writing the music and lyrics from scratch. There might be 1 riff from the original included but you never know as there’s a fair bit of re-arranging going on these days… ;)
Glad you like it in it’s primitive state, we’ll endeavour to film some more at the the next rehearsal and see if there’s a treat for you’s in there… regards… Michaelx”

Hm,
Just read about them wanting to produce the new album themselves. Not really sure if that is such a good idea…
You can trust some bands when it comes to things like this (e.g. Dream Theater), others produce total kack.
Let us pray.

April Fool’s or not, I don’t see any reason why T? shouldn’t produce their own album. They have so much experience at this stage that as long as they have a good engineer I’m confident they’d produce a fine album.

Mind, I quite like the idea of anyone producing it so long as it isn’t the guy who did OCFA.
Anyway, I thought it was the law now that any rock band that has been going over ten years HAS to rope Rick Rubin in to produce their album…?

That’s great!!
My only regret is that I arrived in Dublin in September with the hope to see a concert here, but since I’m going away in June (and they will record the album in this period) I think that I won’t see them live in Ireland… :-(

I agree. IF they produce if themselves, they need an engineer who knows what he’s doing. Although why they dont just get Chris Sheldon in…He’s had a hand in some of their finest albums IMO.

Did Andy not do some of the production for OCFA? When he was stoned? Pretty sure I read that somewhere.
I’d be interested to hear a self-produced T? album

they produced the RHC e.p (other than the title track) themselves i believe and it sounds great.
i personally want something dirty and raw, im fed up of bands with albums that sound perfect, if it sounds just a little bit similar to stuff like babyteeth or nurse (but mastared to a higher volume!!!) i will scream with joy.

I actually wouldn’t mind a nice polished production - kinda like Troublegum.
Hope that the volume of the recording is kept decent and that it sounds nice and heavy. Neil’s drumming adds a nice punch to the sound, so I think that this should emphasised.
All in all as long as it is a good mix where you can hear all instruments and vocals clearly - mission accomplished. That is where OCFA kind of suffered IMO.

Dunno, I am a real fan of the way that Troublegum was recorded - it is really heavy, clear sounding and you can hear all instruments clearly at all times. Would like if Michael went back to the bass sound he had on that album.

IMO OCFA main problem its not in the production… i think it suffers from a lack of dynamics… maybe too much compression on mastering…

^Don’t know the technical reason for it, but what loco says makes sense. Indivudually I love all the songs on OCFA , but listening to the album as a whole the songs seem to blur into one and my attention drifts.
It’s true that Troublegum is fantastic sounding record.

Good production doesn’t necessarily mean Expensive. You just need good mic placement, a good room sound and a good mix is all.
I don’t want to blow my own trumpet but Exit Plan to me sounds great and we had really cheap mics, one computer and recorded in a barn !

Of course it doesn’t have to be expensive. I guess I just wish that they would revisit the steril sounding approach. I feel that the almost mechanical sound married in with samples really defined their early work.
Anyways, I am sure that whatever they come up with will be good. Sounds like they are really going to take their time and get something decent out.

I think in this day and age, with digital recording and ProTools and all that malarkey you can get a very good sound very cheaply and easily.
Unfortunately, the real magic is down to how you put that all together - Getting a great guitar sound on tape is easy enough, but where in the mix does it sit, for example? I think yer man ^ there has a good point about “space” as well.
Mixing and producing is something of a dark art - there’s something magical indeed about the way some records come together.
I just hope Therapy? are good magicians!
