HELMET - new album

#

Started by Jobrok

Just heard that HELMET are releasing a new album next month.

They have the same producer as Strap It On and Meantime to work on the new album.

Sounds good to me. They are my favoutite HELMET albums.
Their later releases are good too, but I really like the roughness of their sound on the first few releases.

Anyway! Fingers crossed that it will be a good return to form for them. Like T? they deserve a lot more attention than they usually get.

I fucking loved the last one. Helmet are a fantastic band and heavily under-rated.

“HELMET RETURN TO THEIR ROOTS WITH ‘MONOCHROME’ OUT JULY 18 ON WARCON RECORDS; BAND CONFIRMED AS VANS WARPED TOUR HEADLINER

Forefathers of the post-hardcore/punk genre, HELMET will return July 18 with MONOCHROME, marking their first release on Warcon Records, one of the leading post-hardcore/punk labels in the industry today. This summer, the band - founding vocalist/guitarist PAGE HAMILTON, guitarist CHRIS TRAYNOR and new members, drummer MIKE JOST and bassist JEREMY CHATELAIN - will play to thousands of music lovers across North America as a main stage-headlining act on the Vans Warped Tour from June 15 through August 13. The album’s first single “Gone” will arrive at radio in late June.

For MONOCHROME, PAGE enlisted Strap It On and Meantime collaborator Wharton Tiers to co-produce and return to the organic sound the band is known for. Tiers recorded the band’s first two releases Strap It On and Meantime, the latter of which sold over a million copies and defined the brusque element of American’s underground rock scene. The HELMET sound sparked a new brand of metal, crossing all traditional music boundaries, paving the way for bands like Chevelle, Deftones, Killswitch Engage, Norma Jean and Silverchair, among many others. The New York Times called HELMET “a band that made important connections between indie-rock and metal…” (September 12, 2004).

The complete track list for HELMET’s MONOCHROME is: “Swallowing Everything,” “Brand New,” “Bury Me,” “Monochrome,” “On Your Way Down,” “Money Shot,” “Gone,” “Almost Out Of Sight,” “Howl,” “410” and “Goodbye.”” (from http://www.helmetmusic.com)

Size Matters was ok, the shows of the accompanying tour were amazing. I’m really looking forward to the new stuff.

I really liked “Size Matters”. It was much better than “Aftertaste”. I found that one hard to keep paying attention to.

I’m still undecided about “Betty”.
It’s a very good album in it’s own right! But a funny one for Helmet compared to all the others.

Hell Yeah, meantime sounds soooo good, event if it is a bit quiet, but it is older than most of the kids that listen to slipknot so its excusable.

And I found Aftertaste much better than Size Matters. Only Crashing Foreign Cars was something I liked.

Aftertaste has so many great songs: Renovation, Like I Care, Diet Aftertaste, Crisis King..I really love that record and it’s just too under-rated album.

But I’d like to get into Size Matters. It’s sad ‘cos the album is not easy listening stuff. I admit I listened to Aftertaste many many times and then one beautiful day it rocked like hell.

I started to watch some vids from RockAMRing on youtube and found a few ones by Helmet, I got the CD out again and it’s been in my car for a few days now. It’s really starting to grow on me.

Anyone else have any thoughts cos I’d recommened gving it a second chance if you were like me

I really enjoyed it… not one of their best, but I’d take a bad Helmet album over most bands good albums so I am probably a bit biased.

Couldn’t agree more mate - it’s my fav album, most underrated one they did imo.

If you play guitar try learning ‘Like I Care’ for a tricky riff.

Shame there’s no uk dates, I hope that’ll change as Helmet are one band I’d like to see live again soon
