Democracy is not the best of the later years output - but its still pretty decent. I’d say go for the Pandemonium, Killing Joke (2003) or Hosanas From The Basements Of Hell…

Guns n Roses - Everything after Appetite For Destruction was a disappointment. As soon as Steven Adler was sacked the band was over.

Most AcDc albums after For Those About To Rock are a bit gash too, with the possible exception of Razor’s Edge.

Iron Maiden - A matter of life and death, or Maiden goes prog with long songs, an abundance of needless solos and all of it being shite from start to finish.

Within Temptation - The heart of everything, or how I was expecting very little after their previous effort, the mostly dire Silent Farce, and still being shocked about how bad it really is.

Delain - debut album, or why I shouldn’t mention them since they aren’t good to begin with, but rather a poor WT clone with a complete twat on keyboard who can’t handle any form of criticism. Did I mention there is a complete twat in that band? I did? Good.

I know it doesn’t really count cos it’s not one continuous band, but after the greatness of The Jam, how the hell Weller managed to plummet to the depths of shiteness that he sank to with The Style Council, God only knows. A couple of decent early singles and then…oh my GOD how shite were some of those later songs?!

Did you get into the remastered early albums? The first three, in particular, almost sound like different recordings (in a good way). But then, I did end up buying the same music three times. :)

another one i just thought of is head music by suede. a terrible terrible album. i was such a fan boy back in the day. i got it the day it came out (this is before mp3’s were freely available kids) and after listening to it thought “well that was a fucking waste of time”. oh the days…

I’ve always thought that… and I bought the last one while thinking the same thing. And surprise, surprise, “The Pretender” and “Long Road To Ruin” are the best songs by the mile on the album. The rest is crap.

They would have a good “best-of” album though, much like Muse.

I got the Singles album off play a few weeks ago for £3 - so I downloaded all the albums… the singles are ace off that album

I was going to include Tool’s 10,000 Days, but I really like some songs… but it’s the only Tool album that I can’t listen to the whole thing and I keep skipping tracks…

@ kill_hill - i really liked deviant. it was only when they did PSI that they turned me off.

i like Dream on and I feel Loved off Exciter. Thought PSI just went for the cash after .com, they lost half the band and got in Jim Davis which fucked their sound up no end, although he did make a good contribution to a couple of songs on .com. They went from pushing boundaries to jumping in with the mainstream toss which was very sad to see. Did see them on the Deviant tour though and they were fantastic.

Depeche Mode haven’t made a consistent album since Violater. Songs of Faith And Devotion was their last properly decent album, the rest have had highlights and lots of filler.

Hopefully the new album restores my faith in them…

See i no longer agree, LTP wasn;t the best album they’ve done.. but knock off three of the songs and it would have been fine.. be it a bit flat with only one vocalist. The new album i still hold in high regard and thing its great, very different from the others and shows them moving on. I like how it sounds but would like a bigger sound next time. Live i think the current line up are fucking good, less dangerous and it was cool having the nick songs to break it up… but i certianly don’t miss the shit shows they did when he was totally fucked and his ball bag swinging around stage. I guess i don;t really hold SFTD as that amazing of an album, i love it but the first two were perfect and the new one i only skip one song… also the fun machine took a shit a died is one of the best things they have done.

That and Violater are the two great DM albums, I would say!

I think the last album was a step in the right direction - the live shows were certainly better last time around.

I have a mate who’s coming to see Down with us on Wednesday who loves the band but says Down III is terrible. I don’t agree myself, but she says the album hasn’t got the “twang” of the other two.

(but OMG I’M GONNA SEE DOWN THIS WEEK! YEEEEEEEES! )

I’m just glad I managed to get her to listen to Down at all - she’s obssessed with Dimebag and couldn’t even listen to Down at first cos of it being Phil without Darrell.

Yeah I am dragging Dan along too, so expect a couple of reviews on here soon - One will contain the words “gig ruined by thick Wolverhampton twat who wouldn’t fuck off” I dare say…:(

Oh and to keep us on topic, a couple of more general things bands (or in some cases their record labels) do that is fucking annoying:

1. Playing the whole of an album in order at gigs.

NO NEED! A nice sprinkling of classics and lesser-known-but-great tracks will suffice thank you!

2. Reissuing albums barely a month or so after they first come out with one or two extra tracks or a remix or a DVD with two shite promo videos BUT YOU’RE A FAN SO YOU HAVE TO HAVE IT, RIGHT?!

3. Playing the same set at every gig.

YES LEMMY, I AM TALKING TO YOU!

Its a damm fine album, better than MFTM, but a few pof the songs at the end of it aren’t shit hot. Love most of Ultra, some of my fav songs are on that record. The Lyrics to Exciter are terrible, thats why i cant listen to it. One of Gores faults is that everything has to rhyme which gets annoying.

No, I’ve never listened to them. I am a bit curious to hear them, but I also feel the old albums are fine the way they are. They do have some nice bonus tracks I believe, and I’ll probably end up buying them at some point.
