Indeed. I said before. It’s cool to hate oasis. But they’ve still managed to sell over 50 million records. AND Morning Glory is always in the top 10 of The Greatest Albums Ever made…which Ok Computer always wins despite being an extremely depressing and difficult listen.

True but record sales and opinion polls don’t make a record any good.

That’s not to detract from the fact that both Radiohead and Oasis have made some good records, it’s just that using statistics to convince someone that an album is great just doesn’t work, does it?

bon jovi have sold loads of records and they are pretty shit x100. As for poles, they are just good for getting people chatting about what a joke they really are etc

i dont think oasis are a joke just yet. If they carried on making albums as bad as Be Here Now or Shoulder of Giants, maybe..But Heathen Chemistry was an improvement and Dont believe the Truth was great.

I don’t understand why Radiohead have made 4 albums now in the same style..Aren’t bands supposed to evolve slightly ?

Even Oasis dabbled with experimental music before going back to rock and roll, so why cant radiohead ?

Noel and Liam also admit that their arrogance is tongue in cheek and they only do it to wind people up. However Damon Albarn actually does believe he is a genius and actually IS that arrogant. Thom Yorke seems like a really difficult person too.

Right, its not only about album sales(though that matters somewhat). Bon Jovi doesn’t count because while he can say he sold many albums on the respect level they are nonexistant. Oasis has been called great song writers by Kirk Hammet of metallica, U2, and coldplay. They constantley poll in the top 50 albums of all time and even we’re recently voted as the most important british band.(I disgree with that but when you have Radiohead , the stones and the beatles in that same list you can say the people are that clueless. I think Oasis and Radiohead are very different. Oasis is a straight forward rock and roll band ala AC/DC , guns n roses ) and Radiohead are a experimental , groudbreaking band. Its funny that 15 years later Oasis are being awarded with a contribution to music award. nobody’s giving Bon Jovi a lifetime contribution award. Give tem their due credit.

Besides, what does Kirk Hammett know about the price of fish?!

I will demostrate this next time I see you in person. I am sure you will understand the importance of a) other people singing in tune and b) me never, ever, ever, ever singing. Ever.

Pop acts obviously dont sing on their records but what about supposed indie bands ? Klaxons View and this Yeasayers band - all do that same falsetto - but wildly out of tune shit.

Well if it’s technically profficient singing that you are looking for - why don’t you pick yourself up a couple of Russel Watson CDs?

I don’t think that’s a fair argument, really - “If you want good singing, listen to opera”…!

Why shouldn’t bands have to sing/ play to a decent level?

OK it should never become technical ability over style/ emotion etc etc but surely a good band is one that combines the two, not sacrifices one for the other?!

deadsetgav wrote:

I don’t think the two have to go hand in hand… and its certainly not a new thing that bands come out that can’t play / sing.

Look at Bob Dylan - not my cup of tea to be honest but he’s obviously a great songwriter - can’t sing for shit.

Lemmy? Iggy Pop? can they sing?

It’s indeed subjective
I totally agree. Nobody has the right to tell me I have bad taste in music, because I like what I like and I don’t give a rats ass about what others think about that. Just to annoy some people around here a bit more, here’s a list of the bands/entertainers that are suposedly “bad” but whose tunes I like:

My chemical romance (love the pompousness of the songs), Robbie Williams (because he’s pretty :)), Rihanna, panic at the disco

now the bands that I think are shit:
U2, radiohead, Oasis, coldplay, the Stones

:)
