Problems with BT?

Just a quick piece of advice, if you’re experiencing problems with BT cut through a lot of the shit and dial 0800 800 151. It’s the fault reporting system, it’s far more competent than the Broadband technical helpline, which was pathetic.

And they charge you a fee when you cancel - but when THEY cancel - you get nothing :p

If the Internet connection is failing you should still be able to see that you are connected wirelessly to your modem/router (you can test by putting the IP address of your modem into a browser when you have connection problems…) If that is the case, It could be that BT are oversubscribed and you’d be better moving to a better ISP.

It could also be interference on your line - so you’d have problems connecting to anyone. It would be worth finding out how far away from your local exchange.

There is also a section on the above link that shows some simple steps to getting a better connection (like disconnecting unused wires in your phone wall sockets, making sure the distance between your modem and the wall socket is as short as possible, and making sure you have your filters set up correctly)

The green/amber light - does that indicate your NAT settings? if so, it sounds like you have either a firewall running or you are connecting via a router that is blocking the ports that the torrent client wants to use.

Try temporarily turning off your firewall and seeing if that works - do you use a router? if so, what type?

http://www.utorrent.com/setup_guide.php - see if anything on there sounds like it might be what you have… there is a link at the bottom to port forwarding.

It might just need the windows firewall setting up to allow the uTorrent traffic through - if that doesnt work give azureus a bash! - its a decent enough torrent client - if azureus doesnt work either - its definitely a port forwarding / NAT issue

mine has, i have to enable my pc has the dmz plus one to use torrents at a reasonable speed.

maybr your the same, and reinstalling windows counts your computer as a different one to the router meaning you might no longer be dmz plus
