Started by Gimme Back My Brainsaw (grant the black smoke monsters coming) in Chit-Chat

As i dont have alot of money and want to get steaming tonight, i plan on buying a few shots of absinthe, anyone had any experience with absinthe before? is this ‘second effect’ ive heared about really that good, and how many shots would you say it takes to get quite wrecked, and is it true if u have more than 2 shots in an hour youll end up hospitalised?

bars arent allowed to serve any one customer more than 3 shots of absinthe in one night however its quite easy to get around that by getting mates to order it for you and so on
i wouldnt recommend doing two shots within an hour, unless you dont want to know what happens the rest of the night. although one night i did have 8 shots whilst out in belfast and it resulted in my mates losing me for an hour whilst walking home only for them to find me sitting beside a tree with a bloody nose not knowing how it happened or how i got there. dermot can confirm this.
id recommend having a shot of absinthe every 3rd drink and that should ensure your mightily pissed throughout the night, but at the same time having some sense of awareness

i went through what i call my ‘alcoholic’ year drinking proper absinthe [legally obtained from a very good off license] and mixing it with vodka and coke in pint glasses. it was actually a really nice drink and quite easy to drink…perhaps too easy

Is this stuff without woodworm still quite lethal?

i had a whiff of some the other night and it just smelt like extra strong sambuka or aftershock.

I manage a sip of the stuff and decided whatever the effects, whatever the rumours, mystique, kudos, bullshit etc etc, one thing is for certain:

It tastes fucking horrid

My old flat mates girlfriend was from Prague so we used to have it quite alot when she brought it over… I just remember it gets you very pissed and that i wasn’t a big fan of the taste. The more two shots thing is rubbish, we used to shit loads… the only hospital trips would be to stitch yourself up after you do something stupid.

Well last night i got knocked sideways so the absinthe must of worked, i agree it tastes vile, i was expecting quite a sweet taste for some reason, but it was bitter as fuck.

Absinthe is nice. Limit the amount you have. In the UK and even most of Europe, you won’t get the ‘second effect’ stuff. It has the same effect as cannabis basically. Also, it crystilisases in your stomach so every time you take another drink the next few days, in melts and you feel the effect again.
In the UK, its just very strong and tastes similar. It is also bright green. It tastes like licourice.
