Missing the point much? It was supposed to be like you were watching someone’s home video. You know what It’s like when you have a camcorder. You always film too much that you will never watch again. It was going for realism. I think the pacing was perfect. :)

Missing the point? The point is, yes, to show it as a home movie but the point of the MOVIE (Cloverfield, to clarify) is to entertain, not follow some dim-witted character you hate anyway around a boring party watching a couple have a domestic. It’s not fun in real life and it’s not fun in a movie either.

Man I didn’t say the premise was beyond belief and therefore should never have even been aprroached and/or could just be dissmissed. I never debated the possibility of a monster turning up and making a big mess of New York. I also never stated it was a review. It was just a comment on the end of a film which dragged to my mind - time being a subjective experience and all that ;). I’m actually shocked to hear that is only just over an hour as it felt like alot more while I was sat there thinking “Oh just die for fuck sake!”. I said it was passable, nothing more than that. If then I post something which takes the piss and is for amusement as much as anything else whats the problem? If you miss the point of any of those its not really my problem. I mean, just because someone doesn’t like a film as much as you or share your exact view doesn’t mean they’ve missed any specific point does it?

It’s nice to see something original for a change…missed the point of a hollywood movie

Original and formulaic? I suppose it’d be pretty original if it was an Public Information Film informing us of how a high proportion of New York’s twenty-something are impervious to most things expect tactical nuclear strikes :D Chances are, small helicopter, several hundred foot if not more fall, nose first into the Earth is likely to kill most folk and not be selective about it. If it had ended there I would have thought it was great! Oh look it was the man-made helicopter that got them in the end and not the big monster!

Just watched it Friday. Actually liked it for what it was. Nice amount of characterization and humor for this type of film. But — and maybe my eyes are going — I cannot for the life of me see the object drop from the sky in the last scene before the credits…when/where in the frame do we see this?

After the bridge collapses and it cuts to the ferris wheel. Beth says something like um…yeah… And look in the bottom right corner. You don’t see it fall all the way down. It literally falls into the sea from just above the horizon.

okie doke…after the bombing scene, the camera cuts to a scene filmed on a ferris wheel at coney island, then the guy turns the camera on himself and the girl sitting in the ferris wheel car. the object splashes into the ocean during this first ocean footage, a fraction of a second before the guy turns the camera back toward himself and the girl.
its not the monster but the tagruato satellite [tagruato being a deep sea mining company within the ‘cloverfield universe’]

tagruato corp. - website created by the filmmakers to tie-in with the film, look at the subsidiary companies as well to get a bit more insight into the whole story. kinda like what they do with lost.
