Every ginger solo album has been good other than yoni which i hate the sound of.
SIlver Ginger 5 was my favorite (it counts as a solo album ok)
and I reckon a break in the weather is up there.

absolutely, the helmet version is definitive, why they’ve chose to cover it is beyond me. The best wildhearts cover for me, indeed one of my fave wildhearts songs, is costellos “pump it up.”

im a huge wildies fan but everything ive heard by ginger solo has been not good to my ears. i didn’t like clam abuse, didn’t like yoni and didn’t like him at download 2006. i saw ‘a break in the weather’ album on import and thought it must have been rare, but just couldn’t bring myself to buy it!

To be fair - the break in the weather stuff was ok (it is basically just the songs from the failed singles club).
Silverginger5 was ok as was some of the stuff off Valor… but when you hold it up against the Wildhearts stuff its sub par.
I can’t understand how it can go soooo wrong though when he is the primary (at times sole) songwriter in the WHs

The Wildhearts have been added to the bill at The Bulldog Bash, so if any WoMbles are going let me know and we’ll meet up - I go the Bulldog Bash every year (hence I have seen the Wildhearts there a zillion times)

Sorry, but that’s not true. I know because I kept crossing my fingers for them to play Austria one day and they never did… except for this one time when they opened for The Darkness, a show which I attended, skipping the opening act BECAUSE I HAD NO CLUE IT WAS THEM. FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!

Out of all his solo albums, this one seems to be the best so far. I think it’s admireable how prolific this guy is still.
Thinking about it, I’d say Ginger’s solo albums are pushing the borders more than anything The Wildhearts have done since “Endless, Nameless”. Unfortunately, neither the solo nor the band records are very consistent anymore. And on top of that the solo albums are flawed by really bad production.

Did anyone read the article that scrolls by in that window, which features Andy of Therapy? I’d love to know what he wrote or said about The Wildhearts.

As far as Gingers solo stuff goes i like the majority , SG5 and Valor are up there with the best Wildhearts stuff. Break in the Weather is really good aswell. Yoni and Market Harbour both have there moments of greatness.
Theres a whisper going round that apart from the Wildhearts , Ginger is giving up signing on the solo stuff.

well apparently ginger diddnt enjoy doing the acoustic tour as much due to the fact he was sober every night.
tbh i see that happening, the amount of wildhearts releases upcoming it seems logical.
but i always see him doing more solo stuff down the line, it seems a bit like his outlet for some stuff in a way.

@buffalo-boy , I assume its just on the albums , thats what hes said on the new york gigs hes currently doing.
I wish he’d do the old acoustic gigs , the ones with Random and Hot steve , they were the best ones. But as Grant said Ginger is sober these days so it probably does get a bit boring after awhile. But hey , the more Wildhearts thats happening the better tbh.

ginger underrates himself as a singer. for someone who isnt trained he sure is good at harmonies and he must be using the right technique cos as far as i know he hasn’t cancelled any shows cos of throat nodules which is very common among untrained singers.
