Also just ordered cheap on Play a couple of Corrosion of Conformity CDs (erm…Wiseblood and America’s Volume Giver…I think…!) cos I am now obssessed with Down and thought I’d check out Pepper Keenan’s other band.
Hope they’re not shit, or I’ll have to wrap them up and save them to give to someone for Xmas.

Cool! I picked Wiseblood cos it was really cheap and seems to get good reviews and AVD was the other cheap one - the others were too expensive for a blind purchase of a band I ain’t heard.
What is the latest one like?

In The Arms of God is brilliant , actually I think all there albums are great except they’re early ones which are more towards a hardcore punk style. Everything from Blind onwards is a winner , Deliverance being the best , Americans Volume Dealer is probably the weakest but still great. Songs like Over Me , Gettin it on , 13 Angels , Congratulations Song and Diablo BLVD are really great ones. Infact ive just convinced myself to give it a listen :).
Oh and they are/were great live. Hope Pepper can find time to a new album soon.

Apart from the american dealer album which isn;t that great (apart from the bonus track “rather see you die”) i don’t think any of the COC albums are bad, I have enjoyed the more hardcore flavoured Eye for an eye and animosity too the start of the more well known sound of blind. Wise blood i think is there peak along with deliverance.

Cool, looking forward to hearing them.
Going on past experience whereby I love Shameless and that’s T?’s least popular album round these parts, there’s always the chance that I will think AVD is the best thing since Fred Hovis’ wife found the sharp knife her husband had been using to cut up the bodies of dead prostitutes in the garage and thought to herself “Hey, I could use this in the kitchen…”*
(*at least, this is how I personally envisage the discovery of sliced bread. There may be, legally speaking, a couple of inaccuracies, but for the sake of a good narrative, what the hell, eh?)

I got bored of waiting for Wiseblood and America’s Volume Dealer to get to me in the post and went and bought In The Arms of God, which I am really enjoying. I got Wiseblood yesterday which I am also liking a lot but after hearing the other album I am disappointed that Wiseblood has a bit of a polished 90’s production in comparison (relatively speaking, of course - I mean, it’s hardly “But Seriously…”!) ..can’t quite explain what I mean. I just prefer the sound of In The Arms of God. Maybe cos out of the two it sounds nearer to the sound of Down…
Either way, two very good purchases I am well chuffed with!

Two up-and-coming new bands that I think will make a big impression, you just mark my words.
They were in a twofer sale in HMV, presumably some kind of “Let’s get rid of the self-titled albums cheap” sale.
