Therapy? Belast Pilgrimage, where to go?

#

Started by pascoa

A bit late, but who knows I might still get some responses. I am going to Belfast this weekend and have 5 hours or so to spare. I thought I would do a minor T? pilgrimage. Which specific sites would I need to visit on this semi-religious quest to T? origin?

Hmm, maybe the Conor Hall Art College where they played their first gig? Or the Limelight where they played lots of early gigs?
Or you could track down the studio on Lisburn Road where they recorded their first demo?

I would say Homestead Studios (where they recorded Babyteeth) but that’s in Randalstown, which is near Belfast.

All Alan’s suggestions are good.

You could also call into the Mandella Hall at Queen’s University - Therapy? usually play there when they’re turing now. That’s where Scopophobia was filmed as well.

Andy is actually from a town called Ballyclare, which is about 10 miles north of Belfast. That’s where Six Mile Water is etc.

Also, if you’re in Belfast you’ll probably be seeing the City Hall anyway, and you can think of The Six Mile Water line when you’re there:

“Like the night we took the mad acid, swore we saw the City Hall on fire…”

Enjoy! :-)

PS I think Conor Hall at the Art College and the studio on the Lisburn Rd have both been demolished now - but you can still see where they were I guess

Really? That sucks.

A few years ago, I remember looking for the Attic in Dublin (where I first saw Therapy? play), only to discover that it, and the White Horse pub below, had been demolished. I remember feeling a little sad inside. :-(

I guess it wouldn’t be so bad if they rebuilt a new venue there, but it’s probably a branch of the Halifax by now!

Take the bus to Ballyclare and hang around in the pub or go see the Comrades.

Alan , The White Horse Inn is still there , although a completely different place. God bless the late Len.

I began to doubt myself a bit there, so did a bit of research – but Conor Hall is indeed demolished:

Strange, I never got to see a gig in there. Closest I came was going to see Atari Teenage Riot there circa 1999, but they had to cancel cos one of the band members was arrested for a drug offence beforehand or something. There a lot of other legendary gigs there apart from Therapy? (Nirvana etc). Shame.

As for the studio, I lived on the Lisburn for 5 years and never came across a recording studio – it’s probably long gone or else been turned into something else.

So I think The Mandela, The Limelight, and City Hall are your best bets Pascoa.

Really? Could’ve sworn I saw a completely empty space where the pub was… then again, I may have been a liiiitle bit drunk when I passed it! :-)
Yeah, God bless ‘im. It was a sweet venue.

Lavery’s is in Shaftsbury Square, about a 10 minute walk from Belfast City hall. Is easily accessed by the 8 and 9 Metro bus routes :)
