Remember that diary entry by Andy in which he mentioned Brett Anderson and the Elastica singer?

Andy wrote something about how he met them at an awards show and that they were only friendly if you had the drugs. Of course, Andy didn’t refer to them by name, but he described them well enough that some WOMbles could figure out who he meant.

Well, anyway, I’m just reading “Kill Your Friends” by John Niven now, which is set in the mid-90’s (which is ace by the way!) and there’s a scene in which the main character walks into a toilet to sniff some cocaine and out come Brett Anderson and the singer of Elastica, who have apparantly just sniffed cocaine themselves.

Now, either those two were an infamous drug couple in those days or Niven (who is friends with James Dean Bradfield who is friends with Andy) based that incident on Andy’s experience.

Do you think that could be possible?

They were an infamous drug couple. I recently read The Last Party: Britpop, Blair and the Demise of English Rock by John Harris, excellent book.

That was a top anecdote from Mr Cairns though :D

Anderson and Justine Frischman were together for quite a while before she went off with Damon Allbran

a friend of mine interviewed anderson for our uni paper circa 2002 and, well let’s just say kids, there is sometimes a very good reason why you should not meet your heroes.
