My bottom three are Kill Justice and Anger in that order
Load / Reload are in the middle somewhere.

You are bang on. I used to always think the same. I recently loaded it onto my MP3 player which uses Gracenote to automatically populate the track names, album etc. This (and Mediaplayer I believe) now refer to it as “The Black Album”. What a lame attempt to make it beatleseque…
Whatever next? The artist automatically being populated as ‘Tallica? (they refer to themselves that way nowadays…)
Just saw that they are playing Dublin in August, will probably go (Tenacious D in support). Will be my 4th time seeing them.

Almost the same - although I’ve swapped Load & Reload (cause I really dislike Unforgiven 2 almost to the point of not wanting to listen to the album cause of it - and the better tracks on Load have the slight edge on the better tracks on Reload)
I’ve bumped Kill Em All down cause it really hasn’t aged very well… Metal Militia is fucking dreadful too.
Masters
Justice
Lightning
Metallica (Actually, it is self titled ;))

Agreed that Kill em All hasn’t aged too well and I could have easily have had it after the Load albums, which I actually quite like.

Using the same logic, I have hereby renamed Kill Em All “The bloodstained hammer left at the scene of a possible crime album that sounds a bit dated” for exactly the same reason ;)

Apart from Reload I’ve never really had a problem with any of there output. I even liked st anger as it was at least something different for once and the production wasn;t what you expected… i liked that it sounded fucked up and nasty and overall shit. I think it needed to be done so they could move on. The songs weren’t bad they were just all way too long.
I don;t have any hopes for this album but i haven’t really since the black album as i was disapointed with that one. I’m sure i will buy and it has a good chance of being an album i don;t mind.

I dunno about that…
The “Shit Sandwich” technique of staff management, as it was taught to me, was that if you need to bollock but you don’t want to de-motivate them, you start with a positive, so they know you aren’t just laying into them and having a go, then you deliever the bollocking bit, then you end with words of encouragement to round it off and let them leave thinking they haven’t just been torn off a strip, more like they’ve had a general appraisal which was mostly good but they better address that issue in the middle cos you seemed a bit serious during that part.
hence Shit Sandwich - bad shit between two slices of good.
My point being… WHERE ARE THE GOOD BITS ON ST ANGER?!
:D

They’ve been writing it since 2003 - i do hope they’ve come up with more than 90 seconds out of the hours upon hours of riffs they had stored up.
Apparently they jammed before every gig on their world tour and recorded every one. Eventually they had 50 cd’s full of ideas to work from.
Then in 2005 they went in to the studio to go through it all and pick the best ideas and turn them into songs.
Finally they picked the best 14 songs and recorded them with the best 10 out of that going on the album :)
Not to mention they’ve been recording since March 2007 and are still going…So at least they’re TRYING :)
St Anger was ..lets record and write at the same time! And not actually write at all ! so the ideas were not the greatest.

I’m not going to start praising bands for “trying”… When a band makes a great album, I will give them repect, but I am not going to sit in my car listening to a heap of shit and think “well fair play, at least the lads gave it a good crack…” !

I was listening to the previews on that Mission Metallica website. Sounds like it is going to be a slightly heavier Black album based on what I heard. No evidence of any “Masters of Puppets era” on the clips. Time will tell as they reveal more I guess.
