Dead Man’s Shoes

Any fans here of this movie ? ( looking at all you Midlanders )

The Irish Film Institute is showing it later this month , with an introduction by Paddy Considine himself who will also attend a Q&A session afterwards.
After booking tickets for that one now as I’m an admirer of Shane Meadows’ work.

Yeah that’s a good one. I think Dermot recommended it to me on here actually. I bought the Shane Meadow’s box set - I thought Made In England was the best, DMS and Room For Romeo Brass were good, TwentyFourSeven average. Paddy Considine is an excellent actor, I really liked his performance in 24 Hour Party People. What’s he been in more recently?

I saw a film last weekend with him and Gary Oldman in called Backwoods - I’d recomend it if you like Dead Mans Shoes.

If you are doing a cheeky download - make sure you download a subtitles file as half the film is in Spanish

Dead Man’s Shoes is a great film, but like Shane’s other films like 24/7, it somewhat got overshawdowed by This Is England, but go and see DMS anyway, as its a great film.

I especially like the soundtrack: I got to know Smog, M_Ward and Adem through the movie. Beautiful music!

^Hmm. I didn’t know Smog was in the soundtrack to that movie. I went to see Bill Callahan last year, it was a great show

It was on last night on film4 as was This is England , both great films that i’ve liked for a good while. There two of the very few films of the last 8 or so years that i’ve actually liked.

Yeah - I saw it years ago and was a bit let down - only cause I’d heard it was supposed to be really violent.

Yeah - you have to remember it was made in the early 70s when you watch it. I think it’s more shocking than violent. It was pretty obvious Backwoods was influenced by it but I thought Backwoods was worse. I found that woman really annoying for some reason, Paddy Considine and Gary Oldman were quite good but the story was a bit shit.

I quite liked the way that it was a series of events and it didn’t explain itself too much - if that makes sense?

The [smog] song that’s in the movie is “Vessel In Vain”. It’s right at the beginning of the movie.
