Why do Therapy? ignore their pop side these days?

#

Started by Sam (Sam Brown)

Some of their best songs are so good because of the unashamed popness i.e. Lonely Crying Only, Loose, Screamager, Nowhere, etc. Am alone in wanting Therapy? to do another album that emphasizes their melodic side?

You didn’t think OCFA was melodic and poppy? Personally, I’m hoping the new one has more of a SPYF or NANE vibe. Although, I do enjoy their melodic moments, as well.

I hear Andy’s dentist ordered him to stop writing infectious sugary pop melodies as they were rotting his teeth. Rumour has it that Andy has no original teeth left and that his pearly whites are in fact dentures

Hey, I’m all up for those pop melodies, though NANE had Long Distance which should’ve been a hit.

I think there’s probably very little by way of conscious thought that goes into whether an album will be “poppy” or not…I think whatever comes out in the sessions comes out, simple as that.

That said, I imagine writing pop-punk type songs could become quite tiresome over time. Throwing different styles into the mix is bound to be more rewarding for the band. And for the fans for that matter.

Agreed - they should make the album they want to make. If the fans like it, so much the better, but writing the songs people want you to write is generally never a good idea. Unless you like the sort of bland, inoffensive excuse for music put out by, say, Within Temptation.*

Leave all the poppy stuff to the likes of Busted and McFly.

Hope T?’s new album ( when is it ready again ? ) is just riff after riff after riff and pure noise.

I think someone has mellowed to far on the sugary stuff!! :-s

Personally I would prefer an album more along the line of SPYF, but if they did through in a couple of “fizzier” songs to entice non-T? fans into realising what they have been missing all these years then I could suffer a one or two of them.

You know when a couple is expecting a baby and someone asks if they want a boy or a girl and the reply is “I don’t care, as long as they’re healthy”..? Well that’s how I feel about the next Therapy? album.

Dennis, I think you’ve just found the title of the new album!!

“So long as it’s healthy”

…sounds like a cool album name to me!

I think they often miss the mark with the poppy tunes… good as they are at writing them. I think Stories and Jude The Obscene are really boring, average pop tunes. We want heaviness!

Judging by the posts above, I think we all have a different idea of which songs are the poppy ones anyway, so if I were T? I certainly wouldn’t be losing any sleep over it.

I’ve been listening to a lot of the albums over the past few weeks and decided that in my opinion, it’s the production of the albums that makes the songs poppy as much as the actual songs.

Agreed. Lose it All and Rain Hits Concrete would probably sound much harsher given a SPYF type treatment. Likewise, in my view, a song like Six Mile Water or Sister would probably be deemed more commercial if mixed and produced differently.
