Was flickin around last night on the old tv and I came across a Pitchshifter gig on Scuzz, not the first time I came across this gig mind, the people at Scuzz seem to ahve a very limited amount of programmes. Anyway I was struck by the sheer pointlessness of it all. Yet again I was looking at a new guitar player or in this case players. And then there was interviews in between each song with Jon and Guitarist X blathering on about how their music has been used in absolutely everything from ads to film to tv to internet and he was quite proud of the fact. I was disappointed to say the least that they didn’t give a toss what their music was used for and didn’t seem to exercise any quality control what so ever. Added to this the fact that their last 2 studio albums were bog standard, i’d nearly go to say that they bordered on nu-metal. At one point they were the loveable lefties hell bent on fighting the system but the ol major label deal seemed to suck away at their creative soul. I’m sure they are top blokes and all but they are still doin the odd gig with just 2 of the original members, 1 if you wanna be interly accurate. Personally I think it all went wrong after .com when the drummer and the guitarist left. Can’t say I thought Jim Davies brought much to the band if anything he limited them although i’m sure its the road the Claydens wanted to go down. MInd you I was them on the Deviant tour and they were great.
Any thoughts?
