I’m just wondering why there isnt much love for The Black Album? Do alot of you actually think songs like Sad But True , Wherever I May Roam , Of Wolf And Man , Through The Never , Holier Than Thou… Fucking hell the whole album is a masterpiece. Ok it was a more commercial album but for straight up hard rock/heavy metal it surely is one of the best of all time? I love master , ride and justice but TBA would be up there with them every time.
I’m with you on this one - I can’t see why people wet themselves over And Justice..which is such a lacklustre album.
I think it’s only over-exposure which has blunted the appeal for me of songs like Enter Sandman, but Sad But True, Holier Than Though, Through The Never, Struggle Within..still get my foot tapping and my head gently nodding in that appreciative way that men of my age use to subtly show how they are “really getting into” a piece of music.
Give me “commercial” “sell-out” Metallica with big riffs and hooks any day over “credible” Metallica.

SO far this new album sounds like its placed somewhere between 88 and 91. Something for both type of fan.

That is how the band described it. What I have heard so far sounds like a heavier version of the “Metallica” album.
The reviews from those who attended the sneak preview kind of suggest that plenty of the songs seem to have a structure similar to “One” (plenty of riff changes etc).
I assume it will be better than St. Anger and be a happy step away from Load and Reload, but how good will it really be (the 3 albums just mentioned are total kack - not easy to top them)?

Yip, before St. Anger came out Lars was doing his “return to form” spiel with the press…

Me included.
You might as well say Infernal Love is total shit because its not the Therapy? we’re used to, which is not true either. Sure, it took some getting used to, after troublegum, ut given a proper listen with an open mind, you discover its actully got some gems on it.
Load and Reload included.

Muskeg,
You are entitled to your opinion so fair enough. Trust me, I bought the CDs back then and didn’t have much money to waste, so I tried my best to like both Load and Reload. To this day I say they are the most boring pile of crap I have ever purchased period.
I am also entitled to have my opinion, so here you go:
Load and Reload are total kack, Load and Reload are total kack,
Load and Reload are total kack,
Load and Reload are total kack,
Load and Reload are total kack,
Load and Reload are total kack,
Load and Reload are total kack,
Load and Reload are total kack,
etc…
Hm, critizing a metal fan who is annoyed that a metal band is no longer playing metal? Sounds odd to me man. They joined the money train and fell flat on their faces. Now they are grovelling trying to win their old “thrash” fans back - the same people Lars dissed in a 90’s interview around the Load era.
You continue listening to you your “‘Tallica” and your “TBA”…
Are you Squall??? (if so, I missed the name change)

Judging by my own personal experience, the people who like Load and Reload are 30-somethings who also think Lynyrd Skynyrd are the future of rock n roll.
That’ll be, erm, just me then.

Good god, no, don’t mention Oasis. Or the fact that both Oasis and Metallica have shite drummers.

I didn’t mind Load and Reload, but they haven’t aged well. Metal Militia is pretty crap - unless you have a bullet belt and spikes on your writstband and you are running round with your ginger-mulletted-sleevless-denim-jacket-clad buddies on the hunt for new backpatches and wenches to lust at from a distance!
and for the record - AJFA is probably my second fav behind Master! put that in your pipe and smoke it :D

i agree that all the good songs from load/reload shud be pieced together to make 1 really good album, load/reload aint their best, but it still have some damn good songs tho, maybe metallica released these kind of albums cuz they know theyre gonna get shit-wads of cash, or maybe they wanted to try something different, i respect any band who risk their careers by creating something different, unfortunately its only worked with a few bands, like Therapy?. i think its great for any band to try and experiment with their sound, rather than churn out same ol material over and over again. metallica tried another experiment, st anger, which by the looks of things did not get the warmest of receptions, i for one love it and i love the snare sound, even tho it sounds like the bottom of a biscuit tin hehe. i have high hopes for this album, i think after 17 years that metallica fans can listen to their new release and actually be satisfied with it in years down the line, unlike the last 3 or 4 albums.

its not really putting jason down is it? he did admit they weren’t listening to his ideas and as a bass player myself Jason wasn’t exactly the most inventive and dynamic player - he just copied Hetfields riffs. Burton was super melodic and all over the place whereas you can play all jason’s riffs on one string!
I’m with you in the credibility thing except for the part where he called the band a bunch of fags (the most ignorant insult ever) for not inviting them to the raiders gig! Not exactly the words of an intelligent martyr!
