well i diddnt mean to piss of any metallica fans, and maybe i was a bit dramatic but how my statment was meant was that i really dont see the fuss at all over this new album, if anyone one else had released it no one would give a fuck about it, it pisses me off when metallica get all this ciritical acclaim over an average album and bands that put out great music get ignored.

Dunno. I can be as contrarian as anyone but I don’t see the point in disliking an album simply because others like it. Or the notion that if someone else had done it no one would give a shit about it. If you hate the new album, fine, but shouldn’t that be based on the reality of your own thinking and listening — not anyone else’s or a projected hypothetical response had someone recorded it? But I do agree too much good music goes unnoticed these days.

It is on my own thinking, I actually listened to the album open minded trying to forget about the hype, and it just diddnt click, it diddnt excite me one bit really, it has its moments but its nothing special at all.

No I think that’s all fair comment.

It’s not a perfect album, and they are far from a perfect band. I can see your point of view and at the end of the day it’s all down to taste really, isn’t it? I can see the shortcomings of the album, but I like it all the same, whereas you don’t. Fair enough. I don’t think it’s as good as some of the excitable stuff I have read (and, admittedly, typed myself!) but then it’s not as bad as some of the slagging off it’s getting either.

I like Fatboy’s point that it doesn’t MATTER if it’s not as good as MoP or AJFA. An album doesn’t have to be the best thing EVER by a band for it to be good, nor does it have to be the ultimate statement and masterpiece of their oeuvre to justify it’s existance.

We all long to hear fantastic, Earth-shatteringly GREAT albums, us music types, but there’s plenty of room in the world for records that are just “quite good really, actually”.

Is that the Everything borrowed album? I like that one.. its the third album that was a bit dull. He was something new when he came out, seems like he is finally shaking it up a little and the next album with be live instruments so thats cool.

Been listening to different stuff
Soulwax- Nite Versions and most of the remixes albums
Oasis’s Dig out your soul album… which isn’t too bad, some more interesting songs and different which is good… haven;t really bothered with them since morning glory.
Trivium- Shogun… its ok
led Zepplin- Physical Graffiti
The Coral- Singles collection
Carcass- Reek… i still enjoy it even if it is hard to listen to.
