Serious Help Needed!!!

#

Started by Paddy

I’m getting married in six weeks, and being a supposed “muso” i told my better half i’d pick the first song to dance to as i didnt want anything wanky played ala Robbie Williams and Angels. Well after six months i’m drawing a complete blank. Picked a few great tracks lyrically by either Bright Eyes or Ryan Adams but they are just too slow to dance to. I wanted cast no shadow by oasis, but she’s having none of that.

Oh and serious answers please!! I’ve had enough help from “mates” suggesting tracks by Machinehead!

Whatever you pick, make sure it’s something short - that’s gonna be my tactic.

How about Superstition by Stevie Wonder? Great track!

yeah i’ve decided nothing over 4 minutes is definitely the way forward.

We might just go for a track that has nothing to do with the topic, but we both really like.

Good song but thinking something a little more modern. The trouble is i had my heart set on a certain song (this is the first day of my life by Bright Eyes) cos lyrically its brilliant, but its just too slow and now i cant get anything to compare to it.

I don’t know it… can you find a band who do a punk cover? They’re always played at twice the speed.

I imagine there will be drippy couples up and down the country this/ next year dancing to James Morrison and his ilk, but I dare say that isn’t quite what you have in mind…!

You should realy go for something that represents the two of you, rather than picking a slow, slimy song. We’re going for something fun and up tempo, and the lyrics are really appropriate as well.
we do have to follow a dancing lesson or 2, just to get the moves right (so I don’t fall over), but I’m sure I will be enjoying myself during our dance and not feel stared at (which is the case during slow songs)

I think Marja is right - a more upbeat song could work very well. And remember, it’s your day so any notion of what you “should” do goes out of the window, just so long as you and Mrs you are happy.

Yeah we have already thought of that. We both love the Levellers so “one way” was a definite option.

For comedy value i fancied a bit of the man dont give a fuck by the super furry animals, just to see the future mother in laws face drop!

Wild Horses by The Rolling stones is another we have thought about.

For all us T? fans out there, i can tell you the very last piece of music to be played will be the boys asleep. If only for the line of “thanks for coming, mind your step on your way home…”

What’s wrong with a bit of Barry White - You’re The First, The Last, My Everything?

You can always claim it is ironic and all post-Ally McBeal, even though it’s just a good song anyway that would be fun.

Barry White DIED when I was on honeymoon. We saw the news on TV in the hotel. I hope it doesn’t signify anything (other than the fact that he was bloody ill, of course.)

The wannadies - You and me song is good but maybe a bit quick. Another one on the list of “songs we like rather than fit” is No rain by Blind Melon. Has no relevance to getting wed at all but its a song we both love

If you know how to dance to that together, then you should go with that. No use for referencing to weddings and ‘i love you’s because it’s quite obvious what’s happening and that you love each other. Just have fun with it. you can always try to look for something fun on you tube, just type in first dance or something, you’ll find something

I couldn’t agree more. If anyone else doesn’t like the choice of song it’s 4 minutes out of their life. If you and your wife don’t like it you’ll remember that forever.

What about Nitty Gritty by Primal Scream? That would get everybody dancing, so you wouldn’t be on your own for long. I’m taping my feet just thinking about it …
