What a load of rubbish.

Harry and Paul is way funnier. Paul Whitehouse is a legend IMO.

The very first series on bbc3 was not bad - but then they had no ideas left so they asked a load of 12 yr olds to come up with jokes.

I’m with you on that - the very first series was funny. It was more observational comedy and some of the stuff was really out there and wierd.

It kinda ripped off League of Gentlemen, but was different enought to be worth watching.

Then they just started writing to please the lowest comon denominator… dumb fucking catchphrases in every single sketch. Every episode was the fucking same.

Total fucking retards could turn up to work next day and simply say in a stupid voice “but I’m a lady…” and suddenly they think they are the fucking king of comedy.

Its one step down from walking round going “Garlic Bread! Garlic Bread?…its the future, hahahah”

Peter Kay is not funny , you’re right.

It’s the whole ” I’m northern , so anything I say - northerners will love it. ”

* Has a go *

” You know when you have a bath - you get wet dont you ? you do dont you ? MAM ! IM ALL WET ”

Im a comedy genius i am :P

Peter Kay can be funny, Phoenix Nights was funny, I thinkg some of his stand up was pretty good.

Even ‘Garlic Bread’ was amusing in the context of what he was saying… however, walking round, repeatedly saying “Garlic Bread!… GARLIC BREAD!” is not fucking funny, its not clever and anyone found doing it should be punched in the cock.

hard.

I think its kinda weird how quickly comedy dates these days. I liked the first series of Little Britain but then it got really old real fast. Same with Peter Kay, great at the time but after only 5 years its already redundant.

Its weird how other stuff stands the test of time too - I remember thinking Harry Enfield was really, really funny at the time (was probably about 14 when it was on) and I saw repeats on UK Gold or whatever, and it is utter rubbish. Around same era was Newman & Baddiel, and I downloaded their series and it is still funny as fuck.

Same with stuff like Spaced & Alan Partridge, no matter how many times I watch those they are still funny, but I watched the League of Gentlemen series 1 on DVD a couple of months ago and it just wasn’t as good as I remember.

yeah, league of gentleman seems awful now. Partridge is still genius. So.. is it just sketch shows that age badly?

Nah - I think Big Train is still fantastic. I’m part way through watching a show that I downloaded (missed it first time round) called Man Stroke Woman - its a few years old (bout 2005 i think - only 3 years but LoG isn’t much older) and that is really funny.

Reeves & Mortimer - The ‘Smell of’ and ‘Bang Bang’ have aged really well - there is a pre-phoenix club sketch that still cracks me up!

SINNER ! :-/

The fast show was never that juvenile. It was a lot more creative and original IMO. Plus it ended after 3 series at the height of their poularity, which LB failed to do..I see them stretching it as far as they can.

I think they should have stopped after 2. When I watch them back all the characters are a bit tainted by the crap they ended up churning out. Heir Lipp just does my fucking head in, as does Pauline and her pens… Its cause they started going for the catchphrase laugh with them and it takes something away from it.

The Village shop was ace with Tubbs and Edward - but then after the live tour and the fucking pantomime - its all “Are you local?…”

Alles klar! I think he’s quite a good character. I really like the first series, the second is OK, they started to get a bit up their own arses by the third, the Xmas special was rubbish, and I haven’t even fucking bothered with the live “pantomime” or the film, after what you said about the live show and after reading about the film (and seeing them being interviewed on Richard and Judy)!

I’ve never even actually watched Little Britain, only seen sketches, and I thought it seemed a poor man’s TLOG.

Damn straight. :) You should give M&W a go. I’ll be first to admit that not every sketch works (particularly numberwang, their catchphrase attempt…), but theres some fucking funny shit in there. The adventures of sir digby chicken caesar for one! :D

Are you nuts? The first 4 series of Red Dwarf were great, but Monty Python’s Flying Circus is, was and shall remain the best TV sketch show ever written or performed anywhere. And certainly the longest lasting :)

I know they are supposed to be comedy pioneers etc, but I’ve never found Monty Python funny. Even the “dead parrot” sketch. Contemporary Michael Palin is irritating as well. Fawlty Towers I concede is quite good.

The dead parrot sketch isn’t funny any more, but that’s only because it’s practically the only thing they ever show now and everyone has seen it a million times.

I just caught a bit of the ameircan little britian , i thought some of the new characters were decent , well just the one with the grandmother saying all the drugs she’d took. That was ok.

First series was good when it first come out , the one sketch that always stood out for me was a character that only appeared once A police officer/driving instructor that went quite mad and in the end started shouting at his learner and then said the classic line “… Now on your way you black bastard” lol when the learner was a white male. Thought it was a good odd evil sketch.

The Fast Show is still class , Leauge of Gentlemen still great well as people have said the first two series, and love Harry enfield if its ever on but thats rare it ain’t even on uk gold.

I also agree Holy Grail is better than Life of Brian even though it is great.
