Why do we have Oasis playing slane next year instead of AC/DC - is pathetic!

There’s no justice in the world.

Mind, I expect ACDC will extend the dates, as the demand has been ridiculous.

It just shows how much the tides have changed in the popularity of hard rock and metal lately, oh and the fact they’ve been gone so long also adds to the demand I suppose.

They’re playing every second day on the tour.
Understandable, considering that all the members combined age is about 10,000 years old.

London were first in to book a second date on the 16th April and the O2 is booked by Pink after AC/DC, so it’s unlikely we’ll see a second Irish date.
If they play London on 14th and 15th instead of 16th and then added another Dublin date on the 17th it would have worked better, as the only dates they’re playing the day after are in the same venues as the night before.

There’s a lot of talk about moving to the RDS or somewhere bigger. But only time will tell.

Well, KJC is saying what everyone else in Ireland who wanted AC/DC for Slane is saying. The DC are playing a venue that holds about 8 times less than Slane, yet the demand for them has been so huge, they could’ve sold out Slane probably twice over.

Oasis probably won’t sell it out unless they get in some big-draw support acts. They’re about 12 years too late playing a venue that large.

By the way, I didn’t get tickets either - I got ‘em (on that temporary reserve thingy that Ticketmaster do), tried to pay for them, then the credit card details section went tits up on me and I lost out. Willing to travel, I tried again for the Birmingham date and virtually the same thing happened. I guess I’m just not meant to see them!

Nice to see though that an asshole from Canada got Dublin tickets and had them for sale on Ebay within 5 minutes for £600 - at least 10 times face value. I live here and can’t get them. I’m not the only one though - everyone here at work is talking about the ticket situation. It’s nuts.

I don’t know if this true or just bullshit, but someone posted on another forum that they work for Ticketbastards and apparently there were almost 80,000 people logged in before 09:00 to get AC/DC tickets.

That’s definitely Slane sold out twice over.

I think venues should have a certain number of tickets for sale at the ticket office so that the locals who want to see the band can get hold of them, instead of livenation or who evers promoting the show giving ticketmaster exclusive sale of the in demand gigs.

I think most of us agree that Ticketmaster are bastards, but Pearl Jam showed that they’re a necessary evil if you want to promote gigs.

Fans feel ripped off and it’s hard for people who can’t sit at their PC all day to get tickets but this is the way it has gone these days for better or for worse.

My wife’s mates camped overnight for tickets outside the NEC (for Take That, but the principle is the same) and the gig sold out BEFORE they opened the doors of the ticket office!
Fortunately they were able to allocate tickets to everyone in the queue somehow but it could have gotten nasty.

Ebay is a major player now for the touts. Apparently, the touts all use automated dial-up programs and machines that snap up all the tickets when they go on sale on-line. They then immediately put them on Ebay and sell them for all kinds of crazy prices.

How can this be right? Ticket sales should be banned on Ebay - it’s absolutely no different to the touts on the streets. If someone can’t go to the gig and has a genuine reason to return their ticket, they should be able to do so at any ticketmaster outlet and get their money back.

Ebay is a god-send for ticket touts, it’s quite amazing that Ebay allows it (obviously, they make their cut on the sale), but it’s also amazing that there’s seemingly no legal recourse to scare off the sellers. If touts cannot sell on Ebay, they will find their profit margins reduce significantly as it would be tougher to sell them on the streets and probably wouldn’t get as near high the price. As a result, the touts wouldn’t go to nearly as much trouble to buy up all the tickets, thus leaving much more available to the fans.

I’ve always been aware of the touting situation, but to see the blatant touting on Ebay over the past few years has surprised me. Today it’s left a real sour taste. Rant over!

Football tickets have stringent reselling laws due to football hooliganism, so why not bring in the same laws to counter the touts?

Possibly cos there’s nothing in it for the Government? No face-saving, do-gooder publicity for them like there was in the “Oh we’re so good, look how we fight hooliganism” days?

Yep, that sounds about right Dennis.

There was/is talk of strictly only allowing in someone who could prove that it is their name on the ticket, or they’re with the person who’s name is on the ticket. Could this work? Obviously, then the people who have no intention of going will not be able to offload the ticket, their only option is to return them to Ticketmaster and get a refund.

Another angle to it this (that I’ve heard is a possibility), is that if you sell it on, the new ticket holder will need to pay a fee to Ticketmaster to have their name put on the ticket. What a load of crap ‘cos the only person who loses out then is the fan (again!). The tout will still make their profits - because the ticket isn’t useless if their name is on it - Ticketmaster will make an extra tenner or so to change the name, and the fan pays the extortiate fee plus the tenner extra to Ticketmaster.

I think as draconian as it is, only the first option may work.

I think im lucky in the sense alot of bands I see are smaller and I can usually just show up at the venue at door times and pay in cash (which is actually the same price as a ticket, as on door is usually a quid or so extra yet the booking tee on a ticket is about a quid which is a bit dull)

The problem with not letting people pass tickets on is that what about presents? Surprises? Giving it to a mate cos I suddenly have to work that night? etc etc

I bought my brother some tickets for War of the Worlds Live next year for his birthday, and so he could see them on his B/D I went for e-tickets and printed them off. Of course, it is MY name on the top of them, but even if he was me, his wife’s ticket has my name on too, and she’s never gonna be a 35 year old fat lad called Dave.

@Dennis

Yeah I was thinking that too. But, if you’re buying a ticket, you don’t have to put your own name on it. So if you’re buying it for someone as a present you can ask for their name to be put there.

Well, that’s the way it is in Ireland (if you’re buying from a Ticketmaster retailer, I’m not sure about online), if it’s not that way in the UK, surely they can easily give you the option of putting the name of your choice on the ticket.

Yeah, I hope that they don’t let ticketing go that way.

I think there was a gig in Ireland this year (can’t remember the artist) where they were only letting people in who had valid ID to back the name on the tickets.

What a load of bullshit…

These AC/DC tickets have been a nightmare… My Dad has always wanted to see them so tried to get tickets from ticketmaster and the site fucked up just as he was paying and then lost out. The touts just take the piss these days, as it is just unfair and wish there was a way to stop them. I’ve been trying everything i can to try and find tickets for Him but i don’t see it happening… only thing he can hope for is another date and to use the seetickets website instead as that didn’t seem to crash.

oooh ive just seen that seetickets have put new tickets out for oasis this week at 90 quid a pop which is inclusive of booking fee but in that price u get the ten quid tour program for free 10 pound off a box set of the album and a few other goodies, thats actually a good idea, hold some tickets back till the week of the shows and put them at a higher price but bundle some stuff thats worth the money to the fans to make up for it and deter touts, 90s a bit steep but cheaper than ebay, could this be one solution of helping ensure true fans get tickets?

sorry bout the triple post but this ideas grown on me even more as ive just noticed standard tickets cost 40 quid anyway, so add the tenner discount and ten program and the packae is worth 60 quid you get a tote bag which is probably worth a tenner at the least so 70 quid, so 30 quid extra is not too much for getting tickets the week of the show, mind this is based on the assumption people want the tote bag and will use the boxset voucher

Same happened to me when paying for 2 Dublin tickets. I got even further an hour later when the Birmingham tickets went on sale, but this time the site was “processing” my credit card details for about 5 minutes before timing out.
I think the touts are using an automatic dial-up that just jams the system making it difficult for fans to complete a transaction the normal way. Fuckers.

If you missed out you could always try the following site:

http://www.toutless.com/

Here you will find people who are genuine and sell up because they can’t make the gig. The site also forbids selling over face value. Met a cool dude who helped me get Motorhead tickets.

I will be honest - kind of doubtful for AC/DC, but you never know until you try.
