most emus arent depressed, they just fake depression as its part of the in thing for their social group, then the ones who actually suffer depression get overlooked as posers.

I guess anythings marketable these days, even feelings, they steal our feelings, make them coporate and sell them back to us.

There is a certain age that kids hit where a certain type of individual will start to be drawn towards the whole “i’m depressed” thing. I think there are various reasons why this happens*, which I won’t bother to go into, but I understand why people who are going through it gravitate towards a certain type of music, though God only knows why anyone would choose that shite American Emo stuff when there are perfectly good Smiths/ Early Manics/ Joy Division/ Girls Aloud albums to get you through this period of your life before you start blocking out the darkness with dreams of Ikea furniture, babies and Mondeos…(or is it just ME?! :) )

And I find it insulting to other types of music that it is called “emo” - Do most other bands not express emotion in their music and lyrics too?!

I should add I am not belittling Depression or anyone who goes through this whole “I hate the world, it’s shit” thing, cos I think most of us will have some experience of that feeling, even if it’s just a passing thing or a bad afternoon once when we were 14, I just think you have to keep it in perspective, is all.

(*not least because they have amassed just enough life experience for the penny to drop and they realise “Ah, life really IS a bit shit, isn’t it?” :D)

It’s always been happening under capitalism - look at punk for example

Mad. When I think emo, I think Rites of Spring. As in EMOTION. Not processed, canned sentiment.
