In my knowledge, that is the first french review of crooked timber…and the result is not very good. 4/10 only!
With my poor english I can’t translate this review, but in summary the reviewer thinks:
- Good rhythmic session
- No melody
- Leader voice is soapy
- The album is boring
- Only 2 good songs : Magic Mountain (because Andy doesn’t sing!!!) and Exils
That’s all, but in my opinion that is the reviewer who is rubbish!
http://www.pavillon666.fr/chronique-metal-3493.php
Good rythmic section: RIGHT.
No melody: completely BULLSHIT!
Leader voice is soapy: PARDON?????????
The album is boring: …and the Pope is a woman.
Only 2 good songs : Magic Mountain (because Andy doesn’t sing!!!) and Exils: right, Magic Mountain is good (although Andy doesn´t sing) and Exiles, too.
..and Crooked Timber and Clowns Galore and The Head and I Told You…
Jesus, the man is mad or deaf or just stupid. I got the album, and it´s brilliant!

YEAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!
A new french review with a 7.5/10 for crooked timber!
According to the reviewer, this new opus seems to be more experimental, more complex and really very good! No problem with the voice of Andy which is completly in phase with the instrumentation!!!
Magic Montain seems to be really…magic! Exils is atmospheric, groovy and dark.
Clows galore alternates noisy guitars and and very big metal riffs…etc.
The drums and bass are both excellent and complex with numerous breaks and rhythmic changes.
Cool!!!!

Totally agree with sull, this review is “merde”…This is the typical attitude of some French People who used to like T? in the mid-90’s and are still stuck to the Troublegum/Infernal Love era and ignore the rest of the Discography or underestimate it, whereas they’ve been doing better than that since (IMHO…) .You ask them if they know T?, they usually answer :”Ah ouais Nowhere ,gnark gnark”

Hello WoMbles,
For having posted confirmation of receiving a copy of Crooked Timber on here, I have been asked to return my copy.
I realise in my last post on this thread, I came off as something of a blagger, but I would like to state that I intended no wrongdoing whatsoever, and had absolutely NO intention of harming the band that I have loved and identified with for as long as I can remember, and whose music has soundtracked many intensely personal moments of my life.
Furthermore, to confirm that I actually do write for http://www.drop-d.ie, here are links to articles I have written:
Chiodos review: http://www.drop-d.ie/article.php?article_id=868
For Ruin interview: http://www.drop-d.ie/article.php?article_id=858
I’ll Eat Your Face interview: http://www.drop-d.ie/article.php?article_id=851
I’d like to apologise to the press department at Global Music for any misunderstanding that may have occurred, and to the other WoMbles, and the boys themselves.

I don’t. My copy hasn’t arrived yet and I’m to return the review copy as soon as I get it.
The MySpace page is streaming the full version of The Head That Tried To Strangle Itself and it is a belter, by my reckoning, it should be a single or E.P. lead track.

The record labels complain about declining sales and then foist shite like that upon us. And they wonder why they’re going to Hell.
The effort they put into these plastic pop posers should be going into honest-to-God, good old-fashioned music.
Actually, just reading the post now, it does seem as though I’m posing as a journo. :-)
My bad: “In my guise” was not the best choice of words by a country mile…
The lesson is I’m no longer young enough to be an enthusiastic fanboy now, I’m a writer, and should conduct myself as such.
