The thing about Magic Mountain is weird.
I skipped it the first couple of times I played the album.
Then let the album run.. and within a couple of minutes you’re just lost in it. I don’t know how.. but afterwards I was thinking “shiiiiit”.
The thing is, there is no overly spectacular drumming on the instrumental, Neil just allows things to tick along nicely, while Michael and Andy do the work.. the guitar sounds immense.
Sounds like a top driving tune

I’m of the same mind as Colin: from the first listen I was lost in it. Definitely no tracks skipped when I play the new album, unlike OCFA (on which I must admit, I still really don’t get DSA). I’m loving Clowns Galore and Exiles - I really hope both of these are played live. The drumming on the former, in particular, really gets me: it just has such a sense of urgency, and along with the lyrics, creates an image containing a hint of lunacy. Love it!

It felt like an album filler to me. Without it because of the length of the tune T? would of needed to find an extra 2-3 songs to make the album as long.
Maybe the other stuff they had wasnt as good.? Hopefully we will hear other songs that didn’t make on the single(s) and make judgement then.
I still love the album and did give it an 8/10

I have to admit, I did wonder about the lack of tracks on the album. The only thing I can say is it’s all about quality, not quantity :)
That’s fair enough though, Mike. I can see why you’d come to that conclusion. I’m curious about hearing the tracks that didn’t/don’t make it onto the album/singles.

I agree with you about Magic Mountain…think maybe another couple of songs would have worked better for me than an instrumental.
Still, Becca’s right about quality over quantity and if they had two other songs that didn’t fit the album or weren’t good enough then I am glad they left them off rather than spoil the record.

as for the lack of tracks - remember all you people were wanting b-sides, possibly another ep on its way

Personally i don’t mind it, its something different from them and within the content of the album it fits well, i don’t think it holds the album back or seems out of place. But that’s just me, from start to finish its sonically and musically ne of their best albums. Without hearing what songs were left off i can’t comment on if more songs should have been put on or not. Guess it would always split people a bit when they are used to the shorter sharper songs that T? have produced over the years, but i originally would have said nine minutes is long for an instrumental as i’ve never been a fan of them by any band but it doesn’t drag at all so i’m happy anyway.

If Magic Mountain was left on the album, then I doubt anything would have put put there in it’s place. Latter day T? albums have run for about 40 minutes whereas the new one is about 50 minutes long. I reckon the decision to add the 10 minute instrumental was a last minute one and wasn’t at the expense of anything else.

Me being one of the ppl waiting for the vinyl to arrive, this sure as hell saves my working day. Or the rest of the week for that matter ;)
.. and before the rant about illegal download starts, let me remind you Spotify is completely legal :D

Funny thing that in Finland the albums seems to go on sale on 1st of April. At least in the RecordshopX (http://www.recordshopx.com/artist/therapy/) where I nowadays buy nearly all my music. This was supposed to be released thoday, but they changed the date on monday. I wonder why, as the postpone of the vinyl hardly is the answer. Thanks to promocopies (and Pete) I have heard the album and it’s much better than the previous one. This time Neil is heard… ;o)

Not sure if the vinyl’s even going to hit the stores here in Helsinki. Today being pay day, I’ll probably pop into Keltainen Jäänsärkijä to pick up the new Mastodon. Might as well ask about Crooked Timber.

CD was for sale here in Tampere in some recordstores yesterday. It was strange cause usually they have new releases in the shops on Friday if the streetdate happens to be on Monday. Last Monday Kati took a round in local shops while I was sitting tattooed and having Snaggletooth gettin inked to my skin. The tattooartist was like: “Therapy?, great to hear that they´re still around, R they comin´to Finland and Tampere again?!”.

I think Magic Mountain stands out like a sore thumb really. Not a big fan, would rather have had 2 or 3 more good tracks.
Anyone notice one of the riffs on Enjoy The Struggle is just like Pantera’s Walk? Not that that is a bad thing.
Also I think Crooked Timber isn’t the best choice for the single. Surely Enjoy the Struggle or Exiles are more immediate songs that are more suited to being a single that needs to catch the listeners attention first time?
