RE: Binmen - very highly paid, our local council is regrading their whole staff and it seems to be mostly so they can downgrade the binmen.
@Dan, no that didn’t coincide with when I joined the workforce

Having a bad time in my day job just now too…Not with threat of redundancies, but with shite machinery that keeps breaking down!! Fed up coming in here every day to fight with a piece of crap machine that just won’t do what it’s suppoed to. It’s on a contract, that i think/hope runs out soon, so maybe get something new and decent in.
Talking of redundances, i drive a taxi part time at night and on weekend, so a redundancy package would actually do me right now, then i’d just taxi full time. :)

they cut our bonus last year and said there would be no raises for anybody, although I got a substantial one (which I’m not supposed to tell to anybody). the bonuscut would only be last year, but this year’s bonus time is next month and rumors are flying round that there will be nothing this year as well. Ah well, like gav said, as I read all the above, I’m happy I still have a good job

My employer used to send the best performers on a week’s holiday to some exotic place but cancelled it for this year and they are giving a financial reward instead , which is being taxed first so hardly leaves anything to do something nice.
And that’s weeks after reporting record revenue and profit over last year.

@ Cuch - Yeah, I think a lot of companies are using the “financial crisis” excuse to duck out of various things, and also an excuse to trim down the staff numbers purely to save money, even when it is not necessary.
Sack your staff normally and you’re a harsh employer, fat cats looking after number one. Do it these days and it’s all “well ,credit crunch…times are hard…you know how it is…”

You might have been better off being a lollipop man assassin instead. It’s technically more difficult, but the hours are better and you don’t have to spend so much time on your make-up :)
