crooked timber song

hi all

I have that strange feeling when I am listening to the song “crooked timber” - is something like “claustrophobia”, “paranoia” and the pain to feel “to carry all the world’s pain on my own shoulder”.

but on the same time, also the feeling of being lucky, being just myself and having no fears, cause I am listening to that song which has something bad on the one side, and on the other side a saftey cause by andy’s voice…

do you feel the same - or do I need some help??

Yeah, I feel indeed that Crooked Timber is not a happy song. And to me the whole album has that pretty dark side, which I really appreciate at the moment. I don’t think, you need help, it’s just, a song gained a feeling, and that is what it should. For a brighter listening I recommend you High Anxiety or Frank Black’s “Teenager of the Year” album, whose did this several times for me.

No doubt. Teenager of the Year is a top mood lifter. I don’t find CT as a song to be that much of a downer, though — creepy and eerie to be sure — but not depressing. But to answer the original question posed…I think we all need help! ;-)

I think the song Crooked Timber could well have been used for the soundtrak of the Blair Witch Project, the song creeps upon you, it has got something eerie and spooky, like you are being followed and after the middle part when it slows down you stop to look behind you, you think you are safe, that whatever is following you is gone…but then it comes back and all is going faster.

great song though, one of my faves!

I kinda felt that ‘Crooked timber, keep me warm and safe’ sounds reassuring, but is then contradicted by ‘Crooked timber that we can’t make straight’, which kinda sounds like we want to make it straight but are unable to. Then ‘My shade will comfort you’ is, well comforting.

Overall it sounds like bad things are afoot but at least we won’t be uncomfortable?

The music is excellent though, reallt cool atmospheric stuff and they should do more like that :-) Sounds a bit like the ghost of Martin though.
