Devin Townsend Project - Ki

#

Started by Gill Rockatansky (The Music That Nobody Likes)

Anyone else heard this stunningly good album? It’s rather mellow compared to the Strapping Young Lad stuff, but you still get bits of that coming through. It’s part of a 4 album piece that he’s hoping will all be released in 2009, each album being musically different. The rumour for the 4th album is that it will be ambient.

Haven’t heard this Ki yet, but looking forwars to it.
His mellower stuff is equally as good as his heavy stuff.

But his ambient stuff is unbelievably shite.

And Ziltoid was pretty annoying too.
A lot of decent music ideas wasted on a stupid album.

I love the ziltoid album. So what if its comedy ? 99% of metal is all death death death pain .

We finally get a metal album thats actually light hearted and ” its not serious enough “..

If anyone wants to hear a few tracks from this, along with other stuff and a selection of tracks from the bootlegs on my website, then I get drunk and do a “radio show” of sorts @ http://www.pANDASradio.tk every Tuesday night from 10. Might even finish with a 40 minute Strapping Young Lad live video from Download. It’s a pretty random show and requests are welcome, so pop by the chat room if you’re bored enough. [/shameless plug]

Also, this album, though he calls it “mellow”, has a few tracks that occasionally sound like Tool. Good stuff it is.

Pickles from Metalocalypse was initially based on him, but the design got slightly changed so it wouldn’t be too obvious. Now I think Devin is modelling himself on Pickles.

Had one listen to this, so far, and I’m less than impressed.
Boring, meandering drivel with short occasional bursts of heaviness.

I’ll give it a few more listens to see if it will sink in, but I seriously doubt it.

Mr. Townsend really needs to pull his shit together if he’s going to hold on to this fan.
The last few releases have been barely listenable.

Don’t get me wrong, like!
I love most of his mellower stuff, but there is just too much of the same on this new one.
The best parts of Terria and Synchestra are the mellower and ‘lump in your throat’ moments.

I suppose he is a bit of a fruit-loop, and needs to balance himself creatively or he’ll be back in the loony bin for another stint.

He’s off all drugs now - there is quite a detailed write up on the myspace page about where his head is at at the moment and what his plans for the record are.

Cant fault his enthusiasm for what he does and he is certainly thinking big. Whether he pulls it off remains to be seen.
