i’ve taken the spinning bit off and the belt is fine, not degraded. it seems the motor isn’t spinning?
the model is a Saisho DSM 20

i didn’t realise moving the arm starts the spin?
I was turning the deck on, (having it switched to tape/radio/cd first) then putting the vinyl on, then switching it to phono so it starts spinning, then raising, moving, lowering the arm to get the sound out.. is that wrong or is it model specific?

Sounds weird to me, but I’m quite old. Normally the spin would start when the arm is moved horizontally towards the edge of the disc (either manually or automatically) - there’s a point at which the spin starts (depending on whether it’s on 33 or 45). You might have an unusual one, but I’ve never seen one that spun before the arm was moved.

@Gimme - I bought a Meteors album on Vinyl a few years ago for nostalgia’s sake and when I got it home I played it straight away. I thought it was really weird that it was so short, but It wasn’t until the next day that I remembered you were supposed to play both sides! :D

You might be in luck - I’ve been doing some research and there are some that spin before you move the arm, but they seem to be even older models so you might have just pulled a wire loose in the arm. Worth a look anyway :)

I had a look and I don’t think mines as old as the one in the video. I’d say mine is more from the last decade. As far as I know, CD’s were invented in the 80’s, and this has a cd player, but I don’t think it’s that old anyway, i’d say last decade.
It doesn’t have the push the arm to the side thing either. Ok i just tried pushing the arm to the side and it works! I have no idea why it didn’t need that previously. Actually I have an idea..
When the last record I played had got to the end, the arm must’ve been on the inside, causing it to click and turn off. Hence why it wouldn’t spin because I didn’t know I had to move it to the right.

@ Viirwotsit - You haven’t “got it working again”, you’ve ‘learned how to turn it on’ :p I’m happy for you though - now just try and be gentle with it …
