what about parents???

Started by rocking roxy

sorry, but i was just wondering if your parents also like T? like you do…

my mommy does…well, i just played her HA this weekend and the first question was: can i have a copy of that too?
yeah that was fun…
so i asked her for a joke, if she wants to go to a gig too, and she said yes!
and i know she was listening to it secretly, while we were out…
in the meanwhile we “teached” her the devil-sign…

so if you see during the tour a woman, much older then you, showing the devil sign and shouting to andy: “don’t spit on yourself, that’s disgusting…” then you have my rocking mommy in front of you :D

(Before changing the message boards’ software in August 2007 this discussion contained a poll, which may return in the future)

She always laughs at Trigger inside though, she calls it the Tigger inside song. Oh, and she always asks why they want ‘Olive’ to die whenever she hears Our love must die. D’oh!

some mothers!

One day my sister came home with a Damned record, which I played a lot. I thne bought my own Damned record, at which point my Dad whined that ‘the standards in this house are dropping so fast’. Shortly after that I bought a thrash album by a band called Sabbat (anyone else ever heard of them?) and we’ve never really seen eye to eye on music since.

My mum tends to like the same 60s stuff as me (Beach Boys etc), but isn’t so keen on anything post 1970.

My sister is now about as far from being a Goth as you could get, and is heavily into being middle aged. Therefore she now thinks all the music I like is crap.

well actually my mum is quiet shocking sometimes:

my sisters are boring
the older one listens to Jazz or classical stuff and the other one likes whitney houston and stuff like that.
and their husbands: no comment on them…

for a woman in her late fifties she has a quite good taste in music, but she doesn’t buy cd’s or goes to concerts etc.

and she has always been cool with me going mad because of bands, she spent long nights waiting for me to come home after concerts and even drove me when i didn’t have a driving license yet.

I fail to see how The Damned signal a ‘dropping of standards’!

That’s what I said. Never did get an explanation, he just said ‘I never thought you’d like this rubbish music’ and how he ‘hadn’t realised he had a stupid child’.

But then, his entire CD collection is all this twanky sitar stuff (he’s Indian), except for ‘Best of The Shadows’, which I bought him.

Strangely, have never played him ‘Potato Junkie’…

My stepmother never really caught on to T?. She was too busy writing sermons about how heavy metal bands are seducing the hearts and minds of our children to commit SIN!. (she’s an anglican minister).

pretty ironic, considering dad and i spent an awful lot of time listening to T? albums in the car, on the way to church every sunday. ;)

Sabbat,
now that takes me back, I worked for their record company at the time. Noise Records. I am still in touch with Andy Sneap.

When I was really young, I listened to crap music… new beat and shit like that (yeah, I know: I should be ashamed now)…

BUT then my wonderful brother put on his Metallica and AC/DC records and put the volume on maximum… and since then Satan has a very special place in my heart :D

My mother is really into PanterA and loves Therapy?… and knows every Metallica classic as well, so actually I have a pretty cool mother :p

I just wished she stopped going to Helmut Lotti gigs :(

I’m not the only one? Cool! Their first album was okay, but had a couple of really good tracks, but the second one was fantastic. The third one wasn’t nearly so good but some of the band had left by then, and the new singer was a bit pants.

Overall, they (and Bolt Thrower - I really did take White Dwarf too seriously) were about the heaviest bands I ever got into (I’m an indie kid, dammit, I have no biceps!), but Dreamweaver was a brilliant record, and really did justice to the book it was based on.

I heard someone saying that on telly a few years ago and it is very true. When I stayed at home my folks say they had to “put up” with my “noise”.

My advise: Tell them to get stuffed and turn the tunes up so loud it makes your ears bleed!

better plan, move out and play the music whatever level you want. The only people to bother you then will be the cops, but sure hey.

Are there people here into heavier stuff, like Dark Tranquility, Raging Speedhorn and The Haunted?

‘Horned is The Hunter’ from the first album is 8 minutes of pure original thrash..I suggest people pick up either that album or yes, the second one too. A totally underated band.

Andy Sneap now has his own studio in Derby, and is doing very well. In fact the last time I saw the blighter was at Ozzfest 98 (T? played)

Horned is the Hunter was one of the best tracks, the other one I really liked was A Cautionary Tale. It was a shame they never got much recognition, but I guess they were never remotely radio-friendly and doing long, intricate songs probably didn’t help.

I bet they were excellent live though!

closest to parents liking t? is i played
the strings “mix” of lunacy booth for
my mom once when i was living at home
still years back. she liked it decently
until it got into the main bit (basically
the intro she liked). then she kinda
cringed saying it was wierd and too
modern.. she listened to mostly classical
those days.

my dad just listens to talk radio with
the windows up all the way and the bass
so high, from the outside of the vehicle
it sounds like he’s listening to rap.
always kinda got odd stares when he’d take
me to school.

it never looked as though they were trying to be rock or act younger than what they actually are. i know for sure they do it because they like live music a lot :)
plus, it’s good to have someone who stays at the back and can hold your jacket and your keys for you :D

The single finally turned up yesterday! And IIKM truly rocks - not so sure about Rust, but Mama is also brilliant.

Ahem, anyway, put it on, and got to the end of IIKM, when my nephew goes ‘play it again’. He’s 2 years and 3 months - does this make him the youngest T? appreciator (fan’s probably too strong a word just yet). He also had a good boogie, as far as any 2 yo can.

Of course, his mother then goes ‘turn his crap off’. But then, she’s been in a bad mood since August 2000.
