New Sound - Advice Please

#

Started by Cian (Cian McGee)

Ola,

Just recently tuned into Therapy? and for once feel my expectations have been surpassed. I don’t have the patience to search through the millions of artists out there and would be grateful if someone could recommend some artists with a sound similar to Therapy?

Obrigado

Thats a hard one, therapy? are so diverse with each album and never really sound much like anyone else, the new album is heavily influenced by a style of electronic music called dubstep one of the artists that does this music well and the band have counted as an influence recently is burial, his music is quite dark and is kinda like a soundcape if you like offtime beats and shit check him out. band wise it really is a tough call theres alot of crossover fans with the wildhearts i guess but the music is miles away, i guess its because they were both prominent alternaitve rock bands in the uk in the mid 90s, the irish band compulsion are worth checking out, and joyrider if im correct andy signed them to a label he was working on or something years back.

Smashing Pumpkins?! If Therapy? were anything like Smashing Pumpkins, I wouldn’t own a single thing they’d done.

Well, they both have quite varied styles from album to album, but have both done distorted grungey sounding rock at times. Plus, SP and T? are two of my favourite bands :)

How about Stone Sour’s second album, “Come What(Ever) May”. There first album wasn’t great, but I dug this one back out a few days ago and have been enjoying it a lot. Harks back to that dirty 90s rock sound :)

Joyrider are a cracking band, a bit on the poppy side though. Compulsion I can understand, though I’m not a massive fan. Could be worth checking out Violet Ultra as I seem to think they sound similar. Should we just make a recommened listening thread for people to make shiny new Spotify playlists from?

Try ‘Big Black - Songs about Fucking’ for an album with a similar sound to T?’s early days. Others may disagree but I can certainly hear similarities!

Love both bands, I’d recommend 3cr to Wildhearts fans though, a little more poppy!

Revolt = V.good album

There aren’t many bands that sound like T?

When I think of T? type bands I usually think of 90s rock bands like:
Kerbdog
Terrorvision
Skunk Anansie
Joyrider
Pet Lamb
Helmet
Sugar
Mexican Pets
GVSB

None of them are really sound a likes, but are bands I got into around the time I got into T?.

Revolt is my favourite 3CR album - great from start to finish - a bit heavier than their other stuff too. I do like Pure and Union of Souls as well though.

And then of course there’s Pete’s new band, Basskniv3s. I have their debut EP and am looking forward to their debut album, which could be out any time, but that’s been the case since last September.
