I am ridiculously excited about this, trailer was ace and I finally got to hear Simon Pegg doing his accent :D
I am wondering if it’s wrong to still fancy Zachary Quinto with the ears though :s

Thanks hooch.
I cant wait either. the new Enterprise is kinda of a mash up between the original and the Enterprise A - interesting…
I just hope its less of a Wrath of Kahn remake than nemesis was ! As much as I enjoyed Nemesis… .

Hahah, I hope you’re being sarcastic - I cringed all the way through Nemesis. I also noted that Brent Spiner was one of the writers and - co-incidentally - Data ends up being the uber hero and saver of mankind… a little too convenient, that one.
Insurrection was pure genius though - ‘smooth as an android’s bottom’ was a favourite saying of mine for a long time.

Nemesis was a blatant Wrath of Kahn remake.

Can’t wait for this, not sure I like the redesigned Enterprise. The shape is a bit weird, where does the shuttlecraft go!
Quinto does look ace as Spock, but i’m not sure about Pegg as Scotty. Just because hes so recognisable already.

I understand what you mean about Simon Pegg, Richey, but I trust him to do it well.
I’m getting annoyed with the website now, yes it’s very swish but it takes so long to bloody look at anything

I have to admit that I was a bit dubious about the whole Star Trek re-boot, but after watching the trailer I am pretty little excited about it now.
I actually got a little tingle down my spine while I watched it.
Hope it doesn’t disappoint.

I absolutely despise Star Trek, so im just looking at this as a JJ Abraham film set in space with sylar and simon pegg in, maybe i’ll enjoy it that way.

Wow - what a movie ! everything I wanted and more :D
Really didnt expect it to be that good. Absolutely loved it. :)
What are everyones thoughts / hopes for the next one ? I really dont want them to bring Khan back…
The writers are discussing having no villain but have an exploration threat story - kind of like V’ger or the Probe from Voyage Home -
I’d prefer that then have them try re-do Wrath of Khan.

How does it fare as a standalone movie? Do i need to know star trek history to see it? Cos it does look pretty sweet…

You dont need to. It only really has nods to Star Trek canon that hard core fans would know about . .

I thought the balance between appealing to people who know everything and people that know nothnig was pretty deftly managed. Hope for the second? THat they can pull the same trick off again, plus more of Zoe Saldan in her skimpies, which will hopefully be skimpier than the battle pants she had on in this.
I think Khan would be a mistake - presumably in the ‘new’ Star Trek the events from the series that led to Khan being so wrathful wouldn’t happen anyhoo. Something similar to V’ger would be better IMHO too

^ ^ I thought the exact same thing. i’d love a kind of V’ger type story. Just some kind of relentless gargantuan entity.
I’m hopeful for the sequal. Same writing cast, producers. JJ hasnt decided on a director yet - but he should really direct again. The direction was fantastic. I’d love Nick Meyer to do it - since he wrote or directed 2,4, and 6 - easily the best of the original movies - No Coincidence ??!!
As i read in some other forum - Khan would be a mistake since at this point he has not been marooned on Ceti Alpha 5, and has not even met Kirk yet.
Plus - you just cant redo Wrath of Kahn. Its a classic.
