I have heard a few of the remastered albums now and I am impressed.
The effect of the remastering is actually quite subtle in some ways, but given how badly albums can be fucked up by heavy-handed tweaking, this is actually a welcome surprise.

I think the early poppy stuff is deceptive - it seems simple but really it’s not.
Did anyone see the Howard Goodall programme about the Beatles’ songwriting? I was largely indifferent to them before watching it (and I still wouldn’t consider myself a fan, now), but holy fuck you’ve got to give credit where it’s due for the songwriting. Goodall took Penny Lane as an example, and compared how any other band would have played/written it, with how The Beatles did (it has something like 12 different key modulations going through it). He played it through on the piano both with and without the modulations, and it was a subtle but really impressive difference.
