Ipod Help

#

Started by Paddy

I’m a bit of a tech phobe and need some help. I’ve recently split from my wife and she has taken her computer with her, the bitch! I still have my ipod but the itunes is still on her unit. Is there anyway to get the info off my ipod and onto a laptop i have brought? Just to confuse matter she had a imac and i have got a ordinary windows driven lap top. I have plugged the ipod in and its telling me it needs re-formatting.

We are still amicable as such, would the items transfer of her itunes onto an external drive?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i dont want the ballache of putting all my cd’s back on my new itunes.

You can copy her itunes library from her PC onto a separate external harddrive, yes. Itunes stores the songs somewhere on your PC in a folder, which should be easy enough to find. From there you need to just copy that folder onto your external hard-drive.

Then you just need to start itunes up on your laptop and import the files into your copy of itunes.

I am not sure if the fact that they were on a mac will conufse the issue, though…

Unless its stuff with copyright protection, you can just plug your ipod into your computer, close itunes, find the ipod in Windows Explorer and copy everything onto your hard drive (all the folders will have odd names like ‘FO0’, then open itunes and import everything into itunes - this worked for my girlfriend’s ipod when all her itunes stuff was initaily on another computer.

The mac thing may well complicate though…

I think you can find your itunes library fairly easily if you want to copy it onto a harddrive.

Bloody hell, a year? Sorry to hear that man.

As for ipods, they are very evil. A guy who worked with me used his work PC for his ipod. Then he took a job in a different area of the company, and he’d no choice but to come back a few weeks later and try and swap his new computer with the person doing his old job!! Just ‘cos he couldn’t get his ipod to work on a second computer. A complete farce :-)

As for re-loading all your cds again - I had to do that when my own PC got a virus about 6 months ago and everything had to be wiped in order to get the PC working again. Quite the pain in the bum!

yeah it does indeed suck that we have split after only 11 months of marriage, even more mental seeing as we were together for 10 years prior to that! But whats a man to do ay!

I think if it was PC to PC it wouldnt be a massive problem, but the MAC interference fucks it up. I’ll have to see how i go, if not its back to night after night of transferring CD’s

You could also look up a programme called iDump. It’s freeware, and will take songs off an ipod. It also explains how to set your ipod into manual mode, so you can look at it through Windows Explorer.

Whatever you do, just make sure you back up your new iPod-library onto a separate external hard-drive, just in case.
