A question about Neil…

#

Started by drummerbecca (Becca)

I don’t suppose anyone would know if Neil still does drum lessons? In all seriousness, I’m looking for a tutor and if he still teaches then I wouldn’t even considering going to anyone else.

Sorry I guess it won’t help you much : I read on Mapex website that he had gained his ‘Certificate of Teaching’ through the Royal Schools of Music in 2001 and currently taught approximately 50 pupils per week when he wasn’t on tour but I don’t know if he keeps on doing that…

Thanks Evilbeast. I read that too. I figure he’d be in great demand so might not be taking on more students if he is still teaching.
Does anyone know? Admin?

No idea. I would imagine he’d be advertising locally if he was taking on students though.

The ever growingly intrusive internet had him listed as playing football down derby sports center on a wednesday night (that was seriously on wikipedia at one point, how fucked up) so you could find him there and ask though you may appear stalkerlike

Well, I actually live in Leicester, not Derby, so it’s not exactly local. Rest assured that if I did live in Derby I really wouldn’t be stalker-ish :p I just asked because he genuinely is my favourite drummer and a big influence… and to be taught by a musical idol would be pretty awesome.
@Dennis, I don’t have anything recent online at all. I know one song by my first band exists somewhere on the net, but I was 17 when it was recorded, and I’m 25 now. Loooooong time ago. I could probably find it if you’re interested, but I distinctly remember the recording being awful.

Seriously though, I’m fully aware that they’ll probably tour after the album is released, but I did read somewhere that he still teaches in between touring and albums, but it was an old interview. Just wondered if it was still the case.

I had a girl on myspace ages ago who was taught drums by him.

cant remember who she was though, and I’d rather avoid myspace.

I asked him about lessons a few years back when they were out doing promo for OCFA - I was abit drunk at a T? DJ night at Rockworld in Manchester to be exact - and he said to drop him a line about once they’d finished the tour for the album. I’d say a mail that can get to the band/be passed on would be a good start point.

Well, I did send an email to the usual address that questions for the band are sent to. I’m just hoping it doesn’t sit in a queue of emails a mile long. I’ll maybe get a response in a few years!

This - http://web2.nessmp3.com/bands/25/ - is the link to one tune that my old band recorded. It was done live and on shitty equipment so it sounds awful. From about 7 or 8 years ago. The player thingy is on the right. Click the play button on the bottom otherwise it downloads the track instead.

Aye, my bassist got a bit lazy with that one. I don’t mind criticisms. As I say, it was 8 years ago, and the band doesn’t exist anymore. Still, I’d hope I’d improved in that time.

Bollocks, if that is your idea of “awful”, you wanna hear some of the shite bands I have been involved with over the years! Sounds pretty good to me.

@James - I have no idea. Our guitarist did vocals and he literally made the words up as he went along. I think it’s in reference to bleeding someone dry, taking advantage, that sort of thing. But in this sense it’s knowing someone is doing it to you, and that it’s breaking you down, but letting them do it anyway. Er, does that make sense…? He did spout some good lyrics once in a blue moon, but it was a bitch to try and do backing vocals when you didn’t know what the lyrics were :p

@Dennis - Heh, thanks :) I’d actually be interested in hearing some of the bands you’ve been involved with. I’m guessing I could find stuff in the WoM members bands thread thing?

@Fuzzeh - Let’s rock!

Ahem. Apologies for the bump of a pretty darn old thread, but Dennis, I believe I’m still waiting to hear these bands…
