Joking aside, it’s quite a comedown in life isn’t it?

Being the drummer in Joyrider, I mean. Taxi driving’s a perfectly decent job…

I’ve got the ‘It Moved’ single and Andy produced the b-sides. They are really bad mixes - I mean really really terrible. I still listen to Be Special quite a bit. Great album.

Not quite right Brian:

I was asked to ‘produce’ the single by Phil the singer. At the time they were on my label Blunt records. At that time I had been asked my opinion on the arrangement of the songs, that was all. Regardless of what it might say on the label/sleeve no buttons were pushed by me and I most certainly didn’t mix the thing, as at that time I most certainly wouldn’t have had the know-how. The version on Blunt was also released while I was on tour and hadn’t heard the final versions. At that moment in time Joyrider used the ‘produced by Andy of Therapy?’ angle to open a few doors. I certainly didn’t sit at the back of a studio, cloth- eared, nose deep in a mountain of cocaine shouting “more reverb!”…it might have sounded better if i had though…

I should also mention that the 2nd time the tracks were released (as a b side on a major) they had already been remixed (not by me, honest!), again, I was on tour but I think the tracks were added to give the singles some b-sides.

Still, ‘Be Special’ is a great and much overlooked album.

Best,
Andy C.

Yup they did Rush Hour, have some cracking tracks on the album ‘Be Special’
Did they do another album? I had some EP’s from that period but got rid of them in an attempt to cut down my collection

yes. they were dropped* before it was released. “skid solo”. it is shite apart from a few songs. i thought they were great when i was at school. great live band. we used to see them around town (my wee bro sort of knew simon as he worked with simon’s girlfriend in woolies) and probably gave them the reception that “case of fire” (who, ironically i went to school with) now get

*i remember hearing phil saying that the label were trying to turn them into some type of britpop band and telling them what to wear etc. that really comes across in the music (a (downhill) progression from “all gone away”)

Yea I can kinda see that from later output, cheers for letting us know!
All Gone Away was a cracking tune, very very pop though.
My sister actually had it on a smash hits tape, I know this because I stole it to listen to that track, and i believe it had East 17 on it too!

Is that Ruby Cruiser as in the band from Abergavenny? I used to knock around with Ed and Matt and the EJ’s in the mid-late 90’s, weird seeing the pics on the Facebook group as I went to most of those shows in TJ’s
