Oddly enough the album I enjoyed most this year was Ian Brown’s “My Way”.

Paradise Lost’s “Faith Divides Us - Death Unites Us” was also good.

There are probably still another couple of albums at least due out this year which might make my list, and there are some I haven’t listened to enough to fairly judge yet.

I’ve bought about 20 albums that were released this year, well something like that, and I think they’re all worthy of a mention, so I’ll have to think about my list a bit. Really been an exceptional year for new album, for me anyway. Got to be at least 6 “classics” this year, which has to be a record!

I’ll post my list later :-)

I have possibly my weakest year at getting new stuff, so have to make do with a top 3 of T?, Little Boots and Muse, in that order. Next would be Lady Gaga and then Green Day, more because they’re new this year (I think Lady Gaga was anyhoo), rather than I actually like them much. Wasn’t impressed with the Arctic Monkeys effort.

Film-wise I think its fairly clearly Moon and District 9 for me - Revolutionery Road was good too, in a kinda exhausting way.

Don’t think I’ve read much that’s new either (The Mammoth Book of On The Edge Stories notwithstanding) - have the new Douglas Coupland and Terry Pratchetts waiting but currently the new Dawkins seems pretty good - v rude about stupid people (again) :-)

I’ll post now and post an updated one at the end of the year!

I usually do a top 10, but because I got so many great albums this year I’ll do more, but break them up a bit:

=========
= Essential =
=========
1. Green Day - 21st Century Breakdown
2. Minsk - With Echoes From The Movement of Stone
3. Porcupine Tree - The Incident
4. Isis - Wavering Radiant
5. OSI - Blood
6. Severed Nerve - The Y Incision
7. Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine - The Audacity of Hype

==========
= Very Good =
==========
8. Static-X - Cult of Static
9. Therapy? - Crooked Timber
10. Eels - Hombre Lobo
11. Powerman 5000 - Somewhere on the Otherside of Nowhere
12. Crippled Black Phoenix - The Resurrectionists
13. Shrinebuilder - Shrinebuilder
14. NOFX - Coaster

=======
= Good =
=======
15. Crippled Black Phoenix - Night Raider
16. Dope - No Regrets
17. Bile - Hate Radio

I think I might have forgot one or two, and a lot of them are too close to really say one is better than the other, but that’s the general list. I’ve only listened to the OSI album once, but it sounded great, so I’m guessing it will go in the top 7 somewhere.

I’m still planning to buy the new Alice in Chains and Placebo albums too. And then there should be a few more albums out by the end of the year that I’ll get (next up is Cokie the Clown by NOFX).

Manic Street Preachers - Journal For Plague Lovers
And, of course, Crooked Timber

Didn’t see any new films this year - been a shit year for film really, but like the look of 2012, so i’ll maybe go see that.

Gig of the year has to be AC/DC at Hampden. What a show those guys put on!!! :)

I struggled to find 5 albums from 2009 that I’ve bought this year, but I’d say:

Porcupine Tree - The Incident
Therapy? - Crooked Timber
Mastodon - Crack The Skye
Manic Street Preachers - Journal For Plague Lovers
Skindred - Shark Bites and Dog Fights

Some of the albums I didn’t like this year include:

Muse - The Resistance… just takes the Queen thing too far.
Editors - In This Light and On This Evening… “Wow, aren’t we original, we can replace our guitars with cheesy synths, thereby sounding like a cross between New Order and the sodding Human League”

Was also not blown away with the new CLutch album (though it wasn’t bad, I just really liked the organ they had on the previous couple) and the Beirut “album” was a bit stinky too.

This is the good hting about YouTube - it means people like me and you can suss out bands like Porcupine Tree without having to invest in an album we might hate. And then if we like what we hear online, we can go out and buy the entire back catalogue in an overdraft-crippling fit of OCD.

Or is it just me that does that with bands…? :(

But yeah, I think I ought to check out Hedgehog Bush or whatever they’re called myself, cos I keep seeing their name everywhere.

You been watching your Animal Porn collection again??

I saw Porcupine Tree a few years ago when i worked at 1 of their gigs. Thoroughly enjoyed it, but never got round to checking them out some more. Time to change that methinks.

My “best of 2010” (sic) in no particular hors-d’oeuvres is:

Arctic Monkeys - Humbug
Mastodon - Crack The Skye
Manic Street Preachers - Journal For Plague Lovers
U2 - No Line On The Horizon
Therapy? - Crooked Timber
Slayer - World Painted Blood

and I quite liked:

Morrissey - Years of Refusal
Echo & the Bunnymen - The Fountain
Simple Minds - Graffiti Soul
Maximo Park - Quicken The Heart.

I know Depeche Mode really ought to be on there somewhere, but I am embarrassed to say I haven’t properly listened to the album yet.
