Thanks. Maybe a top ten finish! Well, I should feel more shame than pride, though. ;-)

With this year almost at an end, is it not time that “someone”, (*cough* Dermot *cough*) started next years competition with the new rules in place? :)

If we knew the rules etc. before New Years Day, we could start to get a list together :)

Eh… well what does everyone think?

Should you be allowed to pick people who are

a) terminally ill
b) on death row
c) aged over 90?

It’s a tough one… cos how do you define terminally ill? eg Ariel Sharon looked like a cert last year yet survived…

There is a high chance that people in the three categories are likely to snuff it (even better if they are in all 3), but its not a dead cert - I’ve had Ronnie Biggs for fucking years and the sly old duffer keeps on hanging in there. I’m convinced its to spite me.

I think we should only exclude people who are certain to die (i.e. have an execution date scheduled or live in a country that doesn’t like to hang about (no pun intended)), or if they have been given months to live.

I.e. Jade Goody and the bad Iraqi’s would have been out, but Levi Straus and the war vets were fair game.

As long as we all agree this time before the game kicks off again :)

And we should disallow late entries that pop up after ‘breaking news’ type stories…

Are we bothering with the Cause of Death bonus points?

I also had Henry Allingham on my list aged between 108 and 111 expecting him to die at any minute. I got lucky this year.

I’m not entering next year. All my team is now dead.

an idea i was thinking of was ‘date of death’ if you get it correct within say 30 days either way or something you get bonus points.

Just had a quick look through everyone’s there - as far as I can tell, no one has died since Claude Levi Strauss in November. So unless someone tells me otherwise there’s no change, and unless something crazy happens within the next 36 hours like a nuclear attack, Caffinebomb has well and truly won Death Race 2009 :-)

So next year… the only exclusion we’ll have is that you can’t enter someone on Death Row?

I also like the idea about getting the date right haha… but if we’re doing it I think it should be the exact day or nothing!!

And I’m easy either way about “Cause” points… it’s a bit of a grey area though when it just says “heart problems” etc. And as we discussed before, I don’t think it’s possible to die of old age!!

I think we have to get rid of the cause. If we do the date thing I agree with Derm, the exact date or nothing.

Exclusions: Death Row and other “kinds of executions”, like that bloke in China, protesters in Iran, Saddam and the like.

But above all, as Sam said: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES LET SQUALL START

how about if you get the exact date you get the maximum points but if you get it correct to within a certain timeframe you get reduced points, or is that overcomplicating things? im just thinking theres a 1 in 365 chance of getting the date right so it isnt that likely anyone will

I think if you were gonna do the date - it would double (or treble) your points.

Its pretty fucking unlikely that anyone is gonna guess the date of death (unless they are out their killin’)

Some interesting rules there… the only restriction they have is no one on Death Row too.

They also say that whoever dies has to have an obituary written about them on the bbc which I think is a good definition of “celebrity”.

Those rules are pretty good - I think the main difference is number of celebs (20 not 10) and the scoring system (i.e. not 10 points for your no. 1)

I’m in favour of just hijacking their rules and applying them to our little comp.

We should have a vote today and use whatever stands first thing in the morning when whoever sets the new one up (not fucking squall)

Maybe we should keep it to ten celebs tho… 20 is a bit much!

depends on whether we adopt their scoring method - we are only going to be scoring low points with the old timers - with 20 choices we can play tactically, stick a few coffin dodgers on the list for guaranteed points, but take a few wild choices for some potential high earning!
