Electro-Acoustic Guitars

#

Started by Dennis (Dudley Less)

hey you little strumming gits, anyone got any advice on electro-acoustics?

I play in a band where an occasional bit of girl’s guitar might be useful in amongst all that man-noise, so I was thinking of getting one of said half-proper guitars.

Don’t want to spend a lot…

Tried a Yamaha, which played nicely but was a bit dull acoustically (didn’t get as far as ampage yet) whereas the Takamine was much brighter but not so delighthful underneath my fingertips… I worry that the Takemine might be TOO bright when amped up though - What sort of acoustic response bodes well for amplified use..?

And anyone got any advice re brands? Ibanez, Yamaha, Washburn and Takemine all seem to do decent electro-acoustics within the kind of money I am thinking of, but I know nothing…

Well, see, I reckon I could get a “will this do?” effort of suitable quality for the £250-300 mark, but would stretch to a little more, should the right model eye me up promisingly enough with suggestions of the kinds of joys I am looking for…

Cheers mate, but i’ve scrolled up now, she’ll never see it!

But yeah, mine was £400. As established. Its a Takamine G Series something or other.

You gonnna go to the guitar shop at the weekend and have a play? And then zip up, wash your hands, and try the electro acoustics?

Less than £249.00 will get you a stupidly good, very rounded sounding Farida acoustic with a hard case. These guitars are seriously awesome when you consider the price, honestly you cant get better for that!
If you need some info pm me and I can link you to some!

It could come in useful with my current band, especially if we have another episode like the one coming up this weekend where it looks like our drummer will be somewhat late arriving… A short acoustic set with the singer might save the day.

I have a ovation which sounds good isn’t too expensive and is robust sound wise. But i have tried a few Takamine ones which i do think sound better… as far as brightness you could always change the eq on the side.. you know the little slider things :-p.

But gav is right you on the pull or something?

Ibanez , Epiphone and Cort have some decent ones

Just an acoustic guitar with a piezo pickup can be really good too
Friend of mine plays a Simon and Patrick SP6 with a Fishman piezo pickup and it actually sounds really well while it cost him next to nothing.

I have an Ibanez (bought when I was a single man), really nice guitar and the thing that I really liked about it was that the action on the strings was really low, so you didn’t have to shred your fingers when holding / sliding notes…

That is no longer the case as the strings on it are the same ones as when I bought it (I am no longer single) and any attempt to play it will result in finger loss.

I’m not sure there’s a lot you can do with an acoustic, other than tweak the truss rod - which is a job for someone who knows way more of what they are doing than I do!

The truss rod isn’t going to help with the intonation anyway, and would put the action out of whack.

Well,
Guitars are a matter of taste and likes,
But you don’t have to buy a high end guitar when there are some pretty good knock off brands available too.
Ok if you can buy a Takamine or Ovation the more the better.
But i would suggest just go to stores and trying guitars..

Take a look if you will at http://www.thomann.de or http://www.musicstore.de german based online stores,
but they deliver worldwide and very cheap. you can see for many brands..

Hope this helps..
