Therapy? vs Anonymous Big Corporate Rock

#

Started by Zorn (Tim)

No brainer really.

We like T? ‘cos they’re edgy, right? ‘Cos they’re not brain-dead corporate rock stars. How many other bands do you know - and beware in this area because you’re treading on thin money-making sycophantic black ice - just do it for the love of rock?

LOVE T?

Tim x.

Do you really think so? Much as we love our idols, don’t you think they’re sinking into CORPORATE ROCK.

Even Green Day - seriously one of my favourite bands - don’t they just end up in hospitality deadlands?

Metallica & U2 too. Do they just sell us the “rockness” of it all - or did they sell out long ago.

Are they NORMAL anymore?

Are they like us anymore?

Do they really ROCK anymore?

Tim.

Well at least we can be sad buggers and say we posted pretty early on Christmas Day.

That is very sad!

As for the question…that is very sad too. Everybody on the planet wants to do their work to the best of their ability and get paid as well so how can you ‘decide’ who is doing it for what reason? Obviously there are some acts that write songs a certain way and have them produced a certain way so Jo Whiley will play it on her radio show (Lost Prophets, McFly, Green Day) but then again, these bands WANTED to be on the radio so its mission accomplished for them - they are doing the job they wanted so they arent brain dead at all. It doesnt mean they are less passionate about their music and would stop if they werent on the radio does it?

depends what you define as “selling out”, the way bands change and stuff, does fame go to their heads?

most bands start with an underground record (maybe a few), and build on them…

then some release an album on a “big” label, which therefore get them noticed, but i guess it depends what happens after that, do they make their music more generic, and poppy by keeping it simple and sound a certain way, to gain more sales and stay in the mainstream, even t? have been there

as far as bands “love for rock”, i guess bands like metallica and green day still give it their best on stage

Its hard to defend both Metallica and green day as they both purposefully made albums that would have universal appeal but yeah, i think they still mean it.
