Bastinado? Jesus man, its pretty poor in my view. Haven’t listened to it since after it came out, may throw it on to see has it got better with time

don’t waste the energy finding it, opening the box, pressing the eject button and changing the CD. I won’t even start on the energy you’ll waste pressing play…

the worst is, and always will be, “Battle knows the story, everything’s all right”.
in fairness, some of the radio session version of those tracks actually sounded good, but the album sounds like it was recorded for 2p.

My favourite album (technically not kerbdog though) is bastinado.

Oh! Dear God… Go and was your mouth out! IMMEDIATELY…!!!!

That Bastinado album is truely awful stuff.
I had a serious sickly feeling in my gut when I first listened to it.
Couldn’t believe they went from Kerbdog to that.
Although I have to agree about the acoustic radio session versions.
A couple of them sounded a million times better than album versions.
You couldn’t even call it lite beer compared to Kerbdog.
It’s more like a diet coke from Lidl or Aldi’s own brand muck.

On The Turn is Kerbdog lite beer, though.
The first album is Grade “A” Weiss Beer.

Yeah, the first album is where it’s at. I’ve never been fond of the production on ‘On The Turn’ either - something has always bothered me about the hi-hat sound. Battle’s lyrics have always been rubbish though, and I think it’s one of the reasons they never ‘made’ it. They’re never had a lyrical hook ala “with a face like this I won’t break any hearts”, for example.

Anyway, regards Wilt, their “My Medicine” album was a step in the right direction, especially compared to “Bastinado”.

Have to disagree, I found the first album a bit ham-fisted, to be honest (although End of Green is good). On The Turn was genius, like a heavier, latter-era Hüsker Dü.

I agree about Wilt though, their first album is poor, some of it is just so twee.

Am I the only person who likes it then?

I do agree it has some goddamn awful lyrics though such as ‘do you remember the days we smoked cigarettes just for the spite, the days where all the interest died’ or soemthing along those lines.

Clocks is one of my favourite tracks, ive overplayed sally to annoyance, I think mexican wave and JJs song are ebtter than sally, though if I ever see kerbdog live I expect sally would be the highlight of the set, I can imagine the whole place going mental to that.

Yeah, ‘Clock’ is a great tune. So is ‘Pointless’ off the 2nd effort.
I’ve seen them a few times back in the 90’s and they usually started with ‘Sally’ and the place did indeed go nuts. I never really enjoyed the 2nd album production, like I said before, but the Fave Fanning session tracks, which were recorded nearly a year afterwards, were excellent.

It’s the rougher edge to the band on the first album that’s the beauty of it.
It was the “Earthworks” and “EOG” singles that got them noticed and then the s/t album that grabbed the first irish fans by the bollix and gave a good hard squeez.

When Billy Dalton left it completely changed the dynamic of the band style.

“On The Turn” Kerbdog is a completel different beast to the “s/t” Kerbdog.

One of the things that I especially love about this band though, was the quality of their single releases.
Every single, and in most cases, the versions of the singles was jammed with exclusive tracks.
Either outtakes, covers or purposely recorded b-sides.
They have as many quality b-sides as actual album tracks.
Any of the following could have been album tracks, IMO.

Kerosene (Big Black cover)
Xenophobia
Self Inflicted
Same With The Hammer (their best b-side)
Gridlock

I think Battle was/is in love with Bob Mould. If you were to ask him how his day was going, he’d probably answer “Husker Du”. Probably.

thats messed up, you shouldnt play your own band, I mean Bruce dickinson doesnt even do that on his radio show (play Maiden I mean not Wilt) and if anyone has the right to play their own band it would be Bruce.
