wasnt it hank williams grandson??

Rebel Meets Rebel is 3/4 Pantera (i.e. everyone except Phil) and David Allan Coe, some country singer dude I never heard of before.

Hank Williams III is on one song, I believe, but he was more involved in Phil’s project Superjoint Ritual.

I’ve been looking to get into the Dropkick Murphys for a while now, which album would you recommend?

Headswim - Despite Yourself

Sing Loud, Sing Proud! has to be my favourite - the perfect blend of celtic tradition and punk power :-)
Blackout is also great, a more polished sound. The Gang’s All Here is great too, but rougher sounding and not much in the way of traditional instruments used.
I’d avoid Do or Die at first - a great album, but a different singer, so won’t give you the best idea of what they usually sound like.

I like Headswim too, by the way. Good stuff. Have you ever listened to Dan’s new band Black Car?

Thanks for the info on Dropkick Murphys, i remember hearing Skinhead on the MBTA and loving it but for some reason I never got any of their albums, strange for me as I usually buy a full back catalogue of a band based on 1 song!
I’ve heard a bit of Black Car but didnt really think much of it, its very acoustic and folky. I preferred Headswim when they plugged the amps in and played rock music although I do like ‘Despite Yourself’ even though it is very morbid in places, understandable I suppose considering the circumstances at the time.

I’ll let you know what I think of the Dropkick Murphys when I get an album.

Cool. Skinhead on the MBTA was from their first album, by the way, so that does have the singer who left after that album, just so you know.

Ooh, just got the new Smashing Pumpkins song (Widow Wake My Mind) - listening to it now… it’s… not what I expected… haven’t formed much of an opinion on it yet, it’s too bizarre. Much poppier and more upbeat than I expected.

Never really given it a proper listen before, but stuck it on as I read it had Billy Gibbons on one track, which I hadn’t even noticed before! Thoroughly enjoyed it, but I just can’t warm to Homme’s vocals. There’s nothing wrong with them, per se, just hard to warm to him.
