Pheww, tough one!

I was trying to figure out my favourite 10 bands/artists of all time the other day… here’s what I came up with:

The Jam

Mostly listen to local / unsigned bands nowadays (the Otters, The Mavis Krank, Stu O’Connor, Latitudes, The Smoking Hearts, To the Moon, Primal Device for a start)
Punk & Rock & Progressive (Love Mogwai, Toadies, Pixies, S*M*A*S*H, Stooges, Latitudes, early System of a down, No means No, early offspring, 65 dayofstatic etc)
Techno / Hardcore / DnB (minimalist techno to the hard stuff, any hardcore thats not happy, harder & wierder ends of DnB)
Electronica (Add N to (X), Aphex Twin, Kid 606 etc)
Reggae & Dub (Zion Train, Dreadzone, Maytals, Upsetters, The Rudies, Max Romeo, Burning Spear, Easy Star All Stars, Skatallites etc)
Country & Western (Jerry Reed, Statler Brothers, Hank Williams etc)
Classical (Rachmaninov, Holst, Handel to name a few)
Some Folk (Stu O’Connor, Fairport Convention)
Some cheesy 80s shite (No examples here to preserve my dignity, well Duran Duran for one then)
Some Hip Hop (Jurrasic 5, DJ Shadow, KRS-One, Public Enemy, Ice Cube etc)
Lots of other stuff that doesn’t fit into any genre i can think of (ADF, Manu Chau, Roots Manuva, Afro Celt Soundsystem, DJ Punk-Roc, Group X, Mr Scruff, Zion Train, Ivor Cutler, Jon Lajoie for starters)
And that covers most of it (ish), might have been easier to say i don’t like Grime, Garage, Pop and metal where i can’t hear/understand the vocals.

This is hard to answer. I think I have a varied taste in music, although most of what I listen to could be loosely classed as rock (including punk, metal, folk rock, alt.rock, post-rock, prog rock, post-metal, prog-metal, nu-metal and other sub-genres).

I also like bands to vary it up a bit too - like Therapy? do.

my taste evolves and changes quite a bit, i kind of go through phases. but my taste in general is quite ‘cut and paste’

at the moment i find myself listening to more drum and bass than anything, getting a bit tired of the jaded worn out metal scene of the moment. and excuse the limp bizkit, i am in university after all :p

I like a little of everything, so I’ll just list bands that are in different genres that I favor

oh, and absolutely everything that was released in 1995!

i’m glad that my favorite band has fans with schizophrenic tastes in music like me! My fave bands are:

Therapy?, Suicidal Tendencies, Judas Priest, Manowar, D.R.I., Ensiferum, The Adicts, Bad Religion, Bijelo Dugme, Fear Factory, Anthrax, The Smiths, Die Apokalyptischen Reiter, Joy Division, Kultur Shock, GG Allin, Misfits, Rammstein, Twisted Sister, Zeke, Volbeat, Cheap Trick, Pulp and Amy Macdonald!

I’ve got them both here. Genius idea.

I think they should just redo the entire Troublegum album like that.

As I state on my profile, I’m a rock n roll whore.

So long as it’s not contemporary jazz (by that I mean that shite that sounds like a 4 year old bashing a piano with a hammer) or window-shattering-extra-soprano-high-note-opera I’ll just about listen to anything. I break it down into moods and places e.g.

About to rock moments: Therapy?, Wildhearts, Ramones, Iron Maiden, ACDC (naturally) and general ‘rock club’ stuff
Pissed off and want to smash something moments: Slayer, Judas Priest, Napalm Death, Immortal etc
Pissed off with the whole world moments: Killing Joke, NMA, RATM etc…smash the system and all that
Doing the housework: Pendulum, Prodigy (makes me do it faster)
Working from home: Radio 3 (‘cos there’s no words unless it’s some opera and then it’s in Italian or something)
Having a bath: Bowie, GnR…something soft to sing along to
Attempting to do some exercise: Pitchshifter, Pendulum
Having PMT: My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, Katatonia
Feeling nostalgic: Soundgarden, FNM, Terrorvision, earlier Metallica
Going to sleep: Satriani, and my favourite ‘sounds of nature’ CD with the birdies and the whales and stuff

I love getting asked this question at the moment.

Recently I have been listening to a lot of slow bell-curve style post-rock, stuff like Pelican, Isis, Russian Circles, Capricorns and Keelhaul. I have also been enjoying a bit of Melvins, Harvey Milk, Witch, Boris and The Sword.

I’ve been very keen on the way the recent T? albums have developed, going back to the more straight-ahead, Helmet-influenced riff stuff.

Never seen it, but my missus loves it and i’ve heard the soundtrack rather a lot as a result. Sounds OK, but hasn’t made me want to see the film.
