This is rounders:

Its the thing you guys mistakenly call baseball, except we dont bother with the silly gloves and socks and all that fanfare, and its only really played by children.
By the age of about 9 you normally grow out of it and move on to petty vandalism.
This is netball:

I believe this is what you call basketball - except really only young girls play it.
Hope this clears up any confusion you Americans have…
If there is anything you need to know about ‘Padded Rugby’, just ask ;)

What you really mean is that you’re going to do some running and then collapse in a heap and drink the rest of the weekend, no? :D

Okay. I gather from your photos that what you call rounders is what we call stickball except it’s really only played by depression era newsboys in movies. It’s that, or a depiction of someone getting mugged in central park, I think.
As far as netball/basketball, I am a bit confused. Your pic shows several overstuffed girls mucking about an outdoor concrete surface. Basketball is played by (mostly) insanely fit giants from all across the globe inside on a wooden surface.
As far as ‘padded rugby’ I can only say at least American football doesn’t employ a “scrum.” Because, seriously, wtf’s up with that? ;-)

Thing is Roy that Rugby is a sport and AF is an entertainment show, i watch NFL and it’s just TOO stop start for me, that and i prefer contact sports where you don’t just dive head first at your opponent in the hope of stopping them. Must admit i prefer college football to NFL, they’re poor in comparison in terms of executing plays but they’re not all completely roided out of all proportion yet. BTW did Dexter Mccluster get drafted this year? (from Ole Miss Rebels).
The scrum is a means of restarting play to give more space on the field, but it’s turning into a fucking joke at the moment, as for rucking i’m not even going to start on that now.

Re above post: Dexter Mccluster is now a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, picked in the 2nd round of drafts (not picked in the 1st round due to people feeling that 5’8” and 170lbs isn’t big enough, but fuck it he’s FAST, seen him get 200 odd rush yards in one game before).

I’ve always thought rugby was a proper sport. Those guys, much like hockey players, are a great mix of savagery and grace. It’s just I do not understand what the hell is going on in a match. The wife (she’s Australian) has explained the rules to me on several occasions, I just can’t wrap my head around it. And I still contend the scrum is a bit, erm…meh, well it’s downright queer, no?
Oh yeah, McCluster went to the Chiefs in the second round.

well if everybody was naked then yeah, don’t know too much of what goes on in there though, i played 6 or 7 most of the time, so i’m only attached to the scrum by one arm (and then only very very loosely, as loosley as i could get away with, in fact it’s often said that those postions job is to be offside, kill the ball and generally do as much illegal play as possible without getting caught too often, what fun : )

You’ve kinda called my bluff though, cause I know fuck all about sport (I probably understand the American games more than our own courtesy of EA Sports ‘Its in the game!’)

Queer can also simply mean strange. But you’re right, that’s not the connotation I was going for. ;-)

John Madden ‘95 on the Megadrive (Genesis) I think was my fav. SF 49’ers where the best team by far - I think they had an overall rating of 95. I think Green Bay Packers had a rating of about 65 so you’d set the computer to play as them and stick the quarter length up so you could absolutely batter it.
I only had a limited grasp of the plays though, so I’d just use ‘Hail Mary’ over and over.
