All England’s keepers are shit, it’s their weakest position. I probably would’ve gone with Foster is I was picking the team, but Green would be my 2nd choice. Better than James or Robinson. This doesn’t really matter, but I’m in Canada at the moment, and the Americans are going to be far too smug about it for my liking. I just hope Slovenia beat America and go through instead.

I don’t think we (in the US) feel smug about this. More relief that we held our own against a better field of players but not necessarily better players making a better team.
I am just now learning this sport here - so my opinion should be valued accordingly.

Well, it was a good game anyway, and I expect both England and USA should go through, though I guess Slovenia have an outside chance if they can beat one of those teams.

Not to beat this to death, the US goal was an error. Normally would not have happened and we (the US) caught a break there. But sometimes sports come down to dumb luck.
And again, being a new guy to the game, I like Rooney. Emotional, but I like the hard charging attitude. Good luck to England the rest of the way.

Admittedly I haven’t watched all the matches so far - most notably missing the England match because some sod decided to get married in a marquee miles from the nearest TV on Saturday - but from what I have seen, by far the most convincing team to now has been Germany.

Much as it pains me to admit that as an Englishman!

Already looking forward to a last 16 game between England and Germany. Terry and Carragher will get skinned more than once by Özil and Podolski. If England make it out of the group that is.

C’mon Germany, you can win this thing!

Or… the Aussies were truly awful, cos the Germans were just too good?

Holland-Germany would be somewhat of a cool final!

You should have kicked in his teeth, and smashed his balls - he don’t need em anymore, he’s married…

Far from it, mate. Us Yanks know a fucking fluke when we see one. This is the equivalent in tennis when you hit a shot off the top of the tape and it lands in. That being said, the rest of the planet can’t help it if England’s keepers are shit! ;-)

Yeah it has Alan, really cagey games. And no one seems to know how the shoot properly with the ball - it’s a bit of a fly away. Only really decent game so far I think was Germany v Australia. I’ve still been enjoying it though.

Nice one Jerry. Maybe it’s a good thing Ireland didn’t qualify then! :-D

As for the WC:
There’s too many teams, there should be only 24 max. 32 just means a load of dross.
Those fucking horns are the devils work; impossible to hear the atmosphere (eg. chants, songs, crowd build-up before a goal and celebrations etc).
The football is too light; free kicks and crosses going into row Z every time. There’s been no good goals as yet, because of it.

I’ll still watch all the games though! Funny to see the Slovaks take it up the hoop from NZ earlier. They must be sickened.

Piss poor is probably the right way to put it. I stopped watching today, too defensive for my liking. Seems like all teams are trying to get through the group stage without breaking sweat.

Good point about too many teams. I would go for 16 teams. The whole thing could be over in 2 weeks and it would spare us all the dross that is currently playing on the world stage. What are Australia, North Korea, NZ et all doing there anyway? It’s a world cup no fucking Olympics, where taking part is the main thing.

If you are sick of the uninterrupted, endless drone of those vuvuzeles or whatever they are called, do what I do:

Watch the matches online. Guaranteed piece of mind from the horns every 3 to 4 seconds when the link breaks down and the page reloads.

So far then…

Germany look good
England still need to decide on their team
Italy look decidingly average
The French are at each others throats (good…)
Those vuvuzulas are the single most annoying sound apart from Lady GaGa singing
The ball is not particularly liked
Raymond Domanech is not particularly liked
The best bit of commmentary so far…”(while the Ivory coast make a substitution)…and there goes Erikson, tinkling the ivories again!”
And North Korea, if they lose tonight, could start a war.

Brazil dominated that game. N Korea were better than I expected, but the scoreline doesn’t really reflect the game - they were lucky it wasn’t 4 or 5 for Brazil. Still, I thought Brazil would score 4 or 5 quite easily, but they had to work hard, so well done N Korea for that. I’m glad England aren’t in that group as they’d struggle to get any points at all.
