Bush

Bush are back together! :-)
I’m a big fan of them, seemed a shame when they split up after just 4 albums. I really didn’t expect them to reform (even though they were about the only band that hadn’t), so this has come as a very nice surprise for me! New album in October! :-)

I remember going to see Bush at the Cambridge Corn Exchange bout 97, support by 3 Colours Red (not much chance of a reformation there sadly), Bush were good (not as good as 3 Colours Red) but were better the year before at the Junction. Lost track of them after Razorblade Suitcase which i didn’t like anywhere near as much as 16 Stone, will have to try and catch them if (hopefully when) they tour.
Cheers Dave, would not have known about this otherwise.

3 Colours Red were a great band. Pete now has a band called Basskniv3s, but they’ve been saying there’s an album coming for about 2 years now and it still isn’t out.

Golden State is my favourite Bush album - all 12 tracks are excellent. Razorblade Suitcase is my 2nd favourite though, just because I love the grungey feel it has with all the distortion and feedback.

Oh, I forgot to put the link where you can hear a new song (though the audio quality isn’t very good, sounds a bit tinny):

I first saw Bush in a pub in Leeds in ‘95. Loved them straight away, but more than anything I’m pleased I got to see them before they started playing bigger venue - have seen them a few times since but that was the best - for me there’s nothing as good as seeing a great band on a tiny stage! :)

I was considering putting “(The Band)” at the end of the topic title. That’s how I usually refer to them when I bring them up in conversation: “Bush the band”.

Totally agree…Probably the reason the my favourite gig ever was Pearl Jam in the old Cathouse in Glasgow in ‘92

Bush are a band i don’t know much about…Heard some of their songs and seem ok…Would you recommend listening to more of them??

Still think Comedown is one of the best song while smoking a spliff !

I’d recommend them.

Razorblade Suitcase is one of the definitive albums of the 90s for me - grungy alternative rock was what ruled that decade for me, and Razorblade Suitcase oozes grungy goodness. Having said that, Golden State is my favourite and Sixteen Stone is very good as well. The Science of Things is a bit hit and miss, but certainly not bad - and they have some good b-side too. So yeah, definitely worth hearing more if you haven’t before!

I feel like their new album is going to be softer (based on the song they premièred), maybe similar to Gavin Rossdale’s Wanderlust - still, nothing wrong with variety. I would like to hear some heavier stuff too, if not on this album then on the next one :-)

@ Chr!s - I guess it depends what you like! I really like most of their stuff, but it is quite varied as they do quite a bit of slow melodic stuff as well as the more rocky stuff. Sadly I can’t speak the language of modern day music so I don’t know how you would pigeon-hole them :( If you are going to check them out you should probably check out 16 Stone or Razorblade Suitcase, both of which are excellent, but you would probably need to be a bit more into them to get into ‘The Science of Things’ which is a lot … stranger, for want of a better word!

If you want to get a broad picture I would recommend listening to the following tracks:

Comedown (great song - very typical)
Glycerine (f**king awesome song - slow)
The Disease of the Dancing Cats (downright weird)

I only have those 3 albums (16 Stone, Razorblade Suitcase & The Science of Things). Just in case you were wondering what to get me for my birthday ;)

I think Comedown is the best song for most things - it always makes me happy whatever is going on :)

@Epitome - I agree with everything you said :)

(The Disease of the Dancing Cats. I love it but it’s not everyone’s cup of tea …)

That’s what I like to hear! ;-)

Another song I’d suggest trying is Greedy Fly, which gives a good idea of the style on Razorblade Suitcase (well, the heavier side of it anyway).

good stuff. would go and see them. sixteen stone was pretty good, razorblade suitcase was better in my opinion as i thought there was less filler on it although i thought swallowed was a poor written for radio track.

agree about greedy fly - best song i’ve heard of theirs but having said that never heard the 3rd or 4th albums. my mate had them both and tried to palm them off on me so i always had the impression they were crap and as a result never bothered with them…

And Winston is dead, yeah :-(

@Richboy: Golden State is well worth giving a go - no weak tracks at all on that album!

Bush sold millions of albums in the US and were less successful over here. But going on sales, reviews and charts his solo career really didn’t do that well?

Maybe at one point I will check them out again as tastes change, never really found them anything special when they came out.

From Wikipedia (so must be true):
It [Love Remains The Same] unexpectedly became Rossdale’s first top 40 hit in United States since 1995 when his former band Bush scored hits with “Comedown” and “Glycerine.” It has since become more successful than Gavin’s biggest hits in Bush from the mid 1990s and is now his most successful track.

I’ve also seen him on TV singing that song a few times (on American channels, so again, he’s probably more popular over there than in the UK).

@RealityFuck: That’s great! As I said, my album to define the 90s! I hope you enjoy it :-)
