One on shoulder blade, one on bicep. My weight’s pretty consistent as my attempts to buff up seem to come to nothing but I live in hope. That said, I’m still at the probably-going-to-chicken-out stage

It’s nowhere near as bad as you think… I was shitting myself when i got my inner upper arms done, and tbh, they weren’t as bad as the outside part!!!! It’s more just an annoying scratchy feeling than painfull.

ha, if you were in Swansea, Citizen I could advise you but since you’re in London where there must be on in every street I can’t really answer but you can do what most first timers do and get info from word of mouth, read the magazines and all that.

And remember this motto - A good tattoo ain’t cheap and a cheap tattoo ain’t good.

And be prepaired to wait. There will be some awesome tattooists out there, but you cant normally breeze in off the street and get it done there and then - get an appointment.

The longer their waiting list, the better artist they probably are.

I’d get a tattoo magazine, browse the ads in there - normally they’ll give you a web site for the shop, check out their galleries - good artists will show off their work

And chat to the guy / girl who is doing it. You should be able to tell if they understand what you want / expect. If you have any doubts - walk away.

A girl called Katie who has just opened a shop in london called Tattoo-a-go-go is good. She’s the ex wife of the guy i go to and he’s got a lot of respect for her work. Not sure where her shop is, but google the name and see what comes up.

Depends what you want tattooed. Magazines are a good source, both for inspiration and to see who’s good at what. Total Tattoo and Skin Deep are the ones i buy. A lot of tattooists use Myspace or facebook to show pics of their work. What i done, was find artists in my area, googled their names to find out as much as possible about their work, then chose that way.

Those are good magazines. I read them regularly myself though I’m waiting for a bad write up of a convention from both publications - they praise them highly but surely some of them are not as cracked up to be.

My tattoo artist is gonna let my son tattoo me. He’s going to spend some time with him and show him how the machine works and give hime some fake plastic skin to practice on first. I’m jealous lol :)
It’s just going to be something small in an area where it won’t be noticed too much. Just need to get him to sit and think what to do on me… Any ideas to help out?
Who knows, he might enjoy it and start drawing more and work towards becoming a tattoist some day.

That pic was taken around 2 hrs after it was finished, so that’s why it’s so red looking.

I think the reason for scabbing less these days is, most tattoos are now less heavily worked, coupled with better aftercare advice and products available.
Get some pics of yours up!!

My next 1 is in 3 weeks time. Getting tattooed at the 1st Scottish Tattoo Convention… Can’t wait:)

I always use bepanthen nappy rash cream on mine, as do most people I speak to on a tattoo forum I go on. Works a treat.

A pharmacist I know told me that someone came into his shop asking about pile cream for healing tattoos. He didn’t think it’d be a good thing, cos pile cream is designed to shrink piles and must work similarly on other areas.

Right people, as of yesterday, I need your after-care advice - have showered carefully and have my nappy rash cream - was told by the artist not to swim for a month which sounds like a long time, advice on the internet seems mixed but sounds like once its scabbed and the scabs have gone I can swim again - any way to speed that up?

I have not had anything as huge or complex as Chr1s’s above (thought I’d give Chironexxa a miss this time). Kinda thought it was adequately painful though, although not as badas the guy next to me having his buttocks done.

No idea at this time whether I’ll have more - I come from a long line of non-tattoo-people and am pretty sure my folks are going to be less than impressed
