Full set of songs in full? That’s some funky language.

Normally, gigs start at 9 -9.30pm in the O2 - GNR started at 10.40pm (I remember looking at my watch when they went on) - so their statement is bullshit. The support act played an extended set (90 minutes) to cover for their lateness.

It is obvious that they want to keep their money. The venue even switched on the house lights 40 minutes after he went off in a huff - that is when I left.

Well, I have written them already and requested instructions on how to obtain an refund (of course highlighting why I think I deserve one).

Loads of message boards are already very active surrounding this topic.

Mate works for MCD and according to him there was an interesting discussion backstage.
Axl had no intention of finishing the set and they only came back to do so after MCD showed them a copy of the contract stating that in case they didn’t all ticket refunds would be for the expense of the band.
Think of that what you will.
No chance of refunds being given now.

On a funny note , heard there was a collective ‘Take off my GnR t-shirt and f*ck it in the Liffey’ when the first load of angry fans came out of the O2.

Sorry, that should be ‘boycott Axl and hired help ruining classic rock songs’ of course. : )

My one quip with MCD would be that the venue switched on the house lights and security told us it was over and to hang on to our tickets for a refund.

They seem to have omitted that from their statement.

I can understand why they are trying to dodge this - it would cost them a fortune, but still I think they are wrong. I wish they would have just let Axl leave.

Their organisation of the event was a farce.

I thought it was a legal requirement for gigs to end at 11/11.30 at the latest at the point/O2 anyway? might be hard for anyone to get a bottle of water next time there’s a gig there!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a band start much later than 9.15 there which leads me to believe the 9.45 thing is complete bullshit… I didn’t even contemplate going after seeing them in the RDS last time - think it was OCFA tour and T? played the small stage

They will have just been saying that so that people left the venue and they could get home quicker themselves.

That may be true, but the fact of the matter is that they said it and are custodians of the venue. MCD pait a very different picture of the evening in their statement than what actually happened.

Yeah , think there is definitely a curfue for the O2 , don’t know what the story was here. Major f*ck-up anyway all things considered.

The thing at the RDS was for the Download Fest if memory serves. Didn’t see much of GnR there either , ended up sipping beers and wine backstage with Alan and some other band :)

Not expecting much to be honest, but a mate of mine is still a die hard fan (can’t say I dislike them either). Your man DJ Ashba looks like a prat!

Booed and bottled off stage and eventually finished gone 1am - did you stay till the bitter end?

Guns N’ Fauxes.

I went to Leeds Festival in 2002 and they were late then (though to be fair the Prodigy over-ran too) - but that was with Buckethead.

No I didn’t - the venue lights went on and the people at security told us that it was over so we left. They told us to hang on to our tickets so that we get refunded. We were half way down the Quays when we heard that it was back on. To be honest, at that stage we were in no mood to go back and got a Taxi (I had to work yesterday).

The statment released by MCD is a load of Bullshit and contains many false facts - they are trying to deny people the refunds.

Welcome to rip off Ireland…

Absolutely right there KJC , it’s all about the dosh. Main discussion between Denis Desmond and GnR was over contracts , refunds and inevitable court cases.
The fisticuffs between Desmond and Axl when he walked off probably didn’t help either. So much for rock ‘n’ roll’s tough boys , aye.

On a brighter note KJC , did you listen in to the latest rock addition to Ireland’s airwaves already ? That Radio Nova that started yesterday on 100FM ?
Just tuned in for my maiden listen and was welcomed by AC/DC playing Dirty Deeds !

I thought they were quite good at leeds, but it really was a case of Axl-Rose-and-some-other-guys rather than a band, even if one did try really hard to look like Slash (hat? check, fag hanging out of mouth? check). Blink 182 were better though :-)

So the Reading footage is on telly. As somebody who doesn’t like them very much, I must say that this is pretty good. His voice is kinda fucked when he does the wailing (and the beginning of This I Love still makes me laugh) but I’m still enjoying it.

Also, Axl looks like Steve Pemberton from the League of Gentlemen.
