Manchester gig reviews: Start here!

#

Started by Karl

Well what a fucking gig.
Hooch and Dano apologies for not being able to find you, I did actually think that I would be the only one with a 9 year old Die Laughing T-shirt, how wrong I was.
Tonight had everything, Martin diving into the crowd, Michael having problems with his bass all night, I met Micheal on the spiral staircase before the gig, so that was nice to talk to him again.

I aslo met a Finnish guy I think his name was Lucas and his girlfirend who were students in Preston. Lucas let me know what she thought of the gig.

The new songs were shit hot, and for those interested they did play rust. The only thing that spoiled it was I could see a set list so knew what was comin gand what wasn’t, I won’t spoil it for the rest of you on the HA tour. I bet it is going to be fuckin chaos in Dublin and Belfast wish I was going!!!

Ouch, my head is really sore! Well I’ve just got back from the show and fuck me, what a belter! Being in a small venure was great, you got a really nice personal feel.. highlights for me were..well everything! The double punch of Potato Junkie and Rust being a particular highlight! It was tight, it was sweaty! The banter was great, and the band seemed to be enjoying it as much as we were!

This was great, I’m telling everybody here..get your arses out and see this tour..every song was great and we broke Carrie in! ( My flatmate and T? live virgin! ), another plus was getting to meet Hooch and her mate ( annoyingly we missed Karl! ) who are top people.

What a great night..the only negative being no Teethgrinder, and the two annoying girls who seemed intent on getting at Hooch. She’s got pics..expect ‘em soon!

I’m off to lie down now, I need it!

hey guys new to the forum woo hoo, the gig was amazing been a while since i saw the guys live but my god last night brought it all back hope to see them again over the summer or as andy promised another tour after september…???
anyways the support was 3 stages of pain (i think) at first didnt see them myself and secondly miss black america the were quite good in places but the lead singer was completely of his tits (couldnt even form a sentence to me after the show ha the long haired guitatist was excellent though), okay,
one more thing, only large and extra large tees, shame but aparently its not because all therapy? fans are fat bastards a matter cleared up by the very lovely girl on the merch desk!

mama the ambulance, thank you and good night!

Manc attendees got asked on another thread NOT to post the setlist. What I can tell you is that they played lots of newies, together with some Therapy? classics. Troublegum, Infernal Love, Sucide Pact and Semi-Detached were all represented.

It was a great gig, marred for me by the lack of bass for about half the set, Michael was well pissed off. Andy looked great though - nice new haircut!

Karl, where were you if you could see the setlist? - up the front? I was down by the desk (well, I’m getting on a bit!)where the sound was great.

my trip over t’pennines from Leeds was worth it because as ever - T? Rocked! They were better than ever tonight, and i’ve seen them so many times i’ve lost count! It’s wonderful to see a band that still after all these years love the music they play with such a passion that they are probably having an even better time than the crowd! Andy C was just constantly smiling like a kid with a new toy! Thats real Rock n Roll - not like the plastic ‘punk’ bands we are bombarded with today!
Setlist was fantastic with all the classics, esp. my fave ‘Stories’!!
lots of stuff from the new album. I’d only bought HA at the weekend so only had a quick listen, but the songs done in a live setting always put a more exciting edge on them in your memory, so on listening to the album again when i got in (1.30am - sod the neighbours!) the new songs sounded even more fantastic - esp. If it Kills me, Hey Satan You Rock and Not in my Name.

Even the ‘Evil Priest’s’ Bass problems didn’t mar the set - it was actually quite funny! And even funnier was Andy trying to start ‘church of Noise’ in the wrong key - “Please god, give a fat guy a break” was his quip! Oh and love the new haircut!

It was also great to see so many young ‘uns there, and not just us diehards - (i think there were only 2 of us wearing the old grey ‘screamager’ T-shirts) - spread the Therapy? gospel to the young and impressionable - yeah!!!

Long live the evil priests of Rock! Long live Therapy?

(p.s I shall be writing nasty letters to certain rock ‘rags’ about the shocking absence of T? from any of the festival line-ups in the UK this summer - a travesty!)
(p.p.s Andy Cairns - i was one of those that actually bought ‘Suicide Pact’ thankyou - in fact i bought 2 copies, so i can’t help it if you still have a mortgage to pay off! *chuckle*)

Well, how about for the people who won’t get to see Therapy? this year?

My exams are clashing with both Irish gigs :( , plus Dr_bigjoint lives in Russia, so he’s not gonna get a lot of T? live exposure either!

People who don’t wanna know the set-list don’t have to read it…

Being in a smaller venue really gives it a great kind of close atmosphere. Set list was great, and when Andy started playing church of noise wrong was funny =)

Did anyone notice that someone stole the microphone? Must of bean one of the crowd surfers who ended up on the stage or when the mic got spun round to the crowd. Anyhow I heard a guy who worked at the gig say “look out for someone with a microphone and get the bastard” lol

Therapy? looked kinda pleased when we all started chanting “James Joyce, is fucking my sister!” :D

I will stop blabbing on now heh, fantastic gig :D

The place was packed. I was right at the front and got very sqaushed (lots of people much taller than me). I’ve got friction burns on my arms and shoulders - that’s how tightly packed we were. :-)

And it was great to see such a wide range of ages.

Only downside when you go to see bands that have released more than 3 albums - they never play all the tracks you really want you hear.

Nice to meet you Karl and all other friendly people. But one thing; whatever happened to the old tunes (okay we got potato junkie, but that’s it)? Well, it doesn’t really matter, i’m a happy boy now!

Title: strange isn’t it?

How, considering we were all there last night, and considering how small the venue was, that statisically we must have all bumped into each other at least maybe once or twice, or maybe looked in the direction of each other, and yet none of us know what each other look like. I mean, this statistic is further narrowed down if the majortiy of us were down the front in the pit (or in my case on the edges of!) so i could have been stood right next to one of you guys for all i know! (well actually i kept moving round a lot ‘cos some drunk muppet kept trying to bag onto me..). Yes, its a boring afternoon in work and i’m getting deep and philosophical (esp. cos i’m knackered now!)

For the record, i was on the edge of the pit (i still managed to pick up bruises even there!) I think i was the only lass in there with the old style grey T shirt on that has the ‘growling triangle’ logo on it! I looked a bit of a mess at the end - too much hair! too much moshing! and now my neck is starting to ache too…must be a delayed reaction! *ouch*. Mind you if my neck is aching the guy stood next to me must be in agony by now as he was really giving it some.

Am just giggling at Andy’s comments that last year he nearly auditioned for Busted - ahahahaha - and what a bunch of muppets they are…

Busted - what a band!

I must say their early demos are excellent, early Sabbath meets Dinosaur Jr, with a hint of Sonic Youth. Although, admitedly, their new stuff is daringly innovative and is possibly defining a new musical genre. Folks, your kids will be listening to, and reading about, Busted in years to come. Yes, their influence will be that wide-spread.

Well, i was the short arsed female at the front with the tattoos (celtic armband on one arm, two intertwined dragons on the other). Probably couldn’t see me coz the guy behind kept trying to sit on my head! (Ok, perhaps I’m exagerating a bit, but that’s what it felt like - my neck is definately shorter today).

Just been chatting with my mate on the phone, he said that when they got there at 7 the staff were putting sold out signs up, so there you go! I wonder if there were many people who thought they’d get in on the night? The problem is that Virgin records stopped selling tickets a while back, I wonder how many advanced sales would have been lost by people not knowing where they were? During the Shameless tour the booth was still there and that album seems to have had less of a push behind it than HA has and that was moved up to the MDH ( Or Academy 2 as we’re now supposed to call it..)

wouldn’t have seen you i’m afriad, i was a bit further back, stuck behind a guy with the word FOX on the back of his sweater - thats all i kept seeing until i made a dash for it during If it Kills Me and got in front of him! I’m quite tall so i had a good view then!

Were there any others that travelled from afar to see this gig, cos there aren’t exactly a lot of UK dates on the tour which is a shame. I came from Leeds, i notice another guy stayed in a Travelodge, and actually a few people staggered off the train in Leeds with me - i recognised them from the gig - wonder if any of there are on here?

I ache so bad. I have too many bruises to count. I can’t turn my neck. Man that was worth it though!

Me and Dano (who made an excellent defence barrier, ta chum :D) made it onto the second row pretty much straight away and to the first about half way through.

I was pretty much right in front of Michael, which afforded several groping opportunities, an excellent past time indeed. The whole band were on top form, I didn’t realise how much I missed seeing them live (it’s been way too long).

Regarding the set-list, I am gutted that they didn’t play Straight Life or Teethgrinder - I know they said they may swap occassionally and throw in some surprises but there were no replacement surprises (as far as I could tell anyway) and there was no Man After Midnight, despite my campaign efforts.

For those of you who want to know the setlist, I truly can’t remember it myself but if anybody does know then they could just start a new thread so people who want to know can read it and people who don’t can avoid it with ease.

Anyway, a big Cheers! to Dano and Carrie for keeping me entertained, apologies to Karl and others that we didn’t get to meet.

Monkfish - I got a train back to Leeds, I was with 2 friends (one girl, one guy) but we didn’t see anyone who looked Therapy?d or we would’ve said hello :)

Oh and yes they did sell out, I came in later and missed the support bands and I saw the sold out signs on the door.

I was at the front slightly to the right of Andy, I guess in front of Martin then. It was only yeterday that I could feel brusing on my right rib, I was trying to hang on for dear life onto one of the montiors, but that didn’t last long. I’m sorry had to go on the rob again, when Martin put his micropohne first over the crowd I took two plectrums from the stand, I gave one lad next to me one of them as he asked me for it. Swear to god, if you can get the chance on this tour, then get one, they are fucking cool. Red with the Gemill on one side and ? on the other. The roadie was a bit tight arsed at the end, as people were asking him form plectrums that were dropped on the stage, but he said no as they were running low (on the first night of the tour?) I asked for a drumstick that was on the stage, and he went and got it, and said sorry it hasn;t been used, oh for fucks sake!!!
There was a really funny tall blond haired lad at the end of the gig who leaned over and got one of Andy’s stubbs and just relit and finsihed it off. Perhaps this was the lad who was trying to sit on the girls back that I read earlier?
No1 concert though, I knew it was going to be a rough one as soon as I saw there was no security line between the stage and the crowd:eek:
